LAMALLE, M DUREAU DE
Memoire Sur le Grand Gorille Du Gabon, Troglodytes Gorilla, Determinant la Limite de la Navigation D'Hannon, le Long de Cotes de L'Afrique Occidentale (Extrait Des Annales Des Sciences Naturelles, 3e Serie, T. XVI)
Victor Masson, Paris. 1851. Softcover, with dust jacket. 11 pages (complete). In French throughout. The mémoire is held within a faux snakeskin board portfolio. This is very smart and agreeably healthy. Title-label on the front. The booklet - one of the first of its kind about the gorilla (the species was only named in 1847) itself is aged, worn, marked. The paper was to determine whether the gorilla was the quadrumane reported by Hannibal. Lamalle judges the gorilla to be so (it is now thought that Hannibal saw Chimpanzees). The covers, despite the wear etc, are benign and secure. The pages too, have evidence of avid use throughout. There are age spots, tanning to the (untrimmed) edges, handling marks. However, they are also clear, certain, benign, diligent, earnest, competent, intriguing. fk. Good/No Jacket.
