Signed again by Edgar Bernstein on the certification page. Karnovsky was one of the most successful of the generation of Lithuanian Jews who migrated to South Africa (he began his business during the gold rush, selling panning equipment to the men going towards the gold areas, and perfume to those leaving!). The boards are benevolent, benign. They have light rubbing and wear. The papertrims have light foxing. The contents are most agreeable. An early Nicholas Winton, Isaac Ochberg brought to South Africa 200 children who had survived the pogroms of the early twentieth century. Gloria Sandak-Lewin has written a poem telling their story.
