Correspondence of Lieut. -General, the Hon. Sir George Cathcart, Kcb, Relative to His Military Operations in Kaffraria, Until the Termination of the Kafir War, and to His Measures for the Future Maintenance of Peace on That Frontier, and the Protection and Welfare of the People of South Africa
John Murray, London. 1856, First Edition. Hardcover, with dust jacket. 401 pages (complete). An elderly but robust copy. The boards are worn all about. The spine has been repaired with a leather strip. The boards have scuffing, rubbing, handling and storage marks. They are steady, assured. The front pastedown has a plate affixed ("Cape Monitor. Bartholomew & Cowen. Cape Town") which is possibly 'signed' by Charles Cowen, a pioneering journalist in the early days of South Africa. The binding / guttering along the frontispage is cracked - but has been repaired. The contents are gently aging, with rashes of foxing, age-marks. There are some shallow handling marks here and there. The folded maps have rusting along the seams - they are otherwise healthy and neat. The contents are agreeably benign. They are clean, clear, certain, confident, very occasionally annotated (neatly in pencil), competent. fk. Good/No Jacket.
