The books are housed in a sturdy, healthy slipcase. The slipcase has wear, scuffing, marks from storage and use. It is strong. The three books are fully bound in claret coloured leather. The boards are neat, clubbable. The books are separated with thick card protectors. All three have, on their front pastedowns, ex-libris plates showing previous ownership by Edna and Frank Bradlow, the well known Africana experts and collectors. Volume I: "General History and Social Life of the Cape of Good Hope". Signed and inscribed (to Frank Bradlow) by Botha, on the title page. A mild-mannered copy. The papertrims and contents have shallow smudges of foxing throughout. In general, the contents are assured, serious, clean, clear. Volume II: "History of Law, Medicine and Place Names in the Cape of Good Hope". Signed by Botha on the title page. The papertrims are flecked with foxing. The early and later pages are smudged with foxing. However, the pages are dignified, clean, clear, confident. Volume III: "Cape Archives and Records". Signed by Botha on the title page. The contents and papertrims have smears of very light foxing here and there throughout. The pages are generously clean and clear, assured, pleasing. fk. Very Good/No Jacket. Signed.
