¶ Hugh Mackay (c. 1640-1692) was a Scottish military officer who settled in the Netherlands and spent most of his career in the service of William III of Orange. - Copy with autograph dedication on verso title: "To The Honorable Baron Bartolph [i.e. Barthold] Mackay, from the Author" & the signature of Barthold's son AEneas Mackay on endpaper. AEneas was prime minister of the Netherlands, 1888-1891.
