Top edge gilt to all volumes. Generally, boards worn and rubbed and darkened at spine else no major damage unless noted below. Third edition enlarged, rearranged according to the natural orders, and entirely revised with descriptions of all the species by the editor John T Boswell Syme. Handcoloured lithograph plates as listed below, some double page. Vol I - (1863) viii, 235pp + plates 1-161. Page 221 loose with tape marks to edges and inner hinges. Corner portions missing to plates 153 & 154 not affecting illustrations. Vol II - (1865) 246 pp + Plates 162 - 322 Repaired tear to illustrated title page else no other defects of note. Vol III - (1864) 273 pp + Plates 323 - 490. Plate 329 appears to be missing (Sarothamnus Scoparius). Repaired split to top of spine. Vol IV - (1865) 265 pp + Plates 491 - 679. Plate 562 bound upside down. Vol V - (1866) 231 pp + Plates 680 - 860. Vol VI - (1866) 213 pp + Plates 861 - 1018. Slight damage to very edge of plate 994. Vol VII - (1867) 194 pp + Plates 1019 - 1177. Vol VIII - (1868) 296 pp + Plates 1178 - 1384. Lacks print 1178. Lateral 2" tears to plates 1264/5 & 6, not intersecting drawings. Vol IX - (1869) errata + 239 pp + Plates 1285 - 1545. Vol X - (1870) 183 pp + Plates 1546 - 1685. Vol XI - (1873) 216 pp + Plates 1686 - 1824. Light water stain to top right margins of approx plates. Most plates clean, bright and crisp with sporadic light foxing to some plates in several volumes. Illustrator: John Edward Sowerby and others.. Quantity Available: 1.
