¶ In 1624 the German erudite Kaspar Barth (1587-1658) translated the Spanish book Celestina (1499) into latin with the title Pornoboscodidascalus (teacher of the brothel master). The translation contains an extensive prologue and numerous translation notes.
¶ Brunet I, 1720: "Cette traduction est rare". Palau 51.199: "Esta traducción latina se debe al humanista de Brendeburgo Gaspar Berth o Barthius, el cual depués de su viaje por España hacia 1619, se entregó con entusiaso a este trabajo." A mediocre copy of a rare translation of the Celestina, with other translations added.

¶ De bekende libertijn Adriaan Beverland (Middelburg 1651-Engeland na 1712) werd verbannen uit Zeeland en Holland en later uit Utrecht. Hij kwam tot inkeer (?) en reisde naar Engeland, waar hij tijdelijk secretaris van Isaac Vossius was. Dit werk ondertekende hij als volgt: "Supplex orabat in arce Vindesoriensi (= Windsor Castle), Anno 1693."). "Beverland veinst hier een totale ommekeer; hij beweert van zichzelf dat hij de aangewezen persoon is om de jeugd op het rechte pad te brengen (o ironie!), hij kent immers de dwaallichten van de lust." - R.de Smet, Hadrianus Beverlandus, p.57. Dit is de derde druk (2 eerdere drukken verschenen in 1697 te Londen bij Christoph Bateman.) - Third edition of this mock repentance by one of Hollands most famous libertines.

¶ On this "10th edition" P.C.Molhuyzen in Tijdschr.v.Boek en Bibliotheekwezen, 1903, p.403: "In werkelijkheid is er maar één druk, die 2 maal opnieuw, enkel met nieuw titelblad uitgegeven is. De eerste uitgave is bij Petrus van der Aa te Leiden 1725, de nieuwe uitgave is van Johannes van Abkoude te Leiden, 1732, die op den titel 'editio nova' liet drukken ; daarna kwamen de niet verkochte exemplaren bij Johannes Delbeek te Leiden, die ze in 1738 voor de derde maal uitgaf, ook weer alleen met nieuw titelblad. Niet bijzonder vertrouwd met het Latijn, hield hij 'nova' voor negende, en dus drukte hij op zijn titelblad 'editio decima'.
