Two volumes, complete. Illustrated with 48 numbered engraved plates, each showing four plants, all nicely hand-colored. xii, [2], 408, pp. plate nos. 1-25; iv, 510, [2] pp. plate nos. 26-48. In worn publisher's bindings: brown cloth, gilt lettering on spines, yellow coated endpapers. Joints are rubbed and backstrips are loose, with several horizontal tears across backstrips, and lower boards detached. The backstrip of Volume 1 has loss at crown. Ex library, with only a library stamp on pastedowns, title-pages and several times within the volumes, including the verso of one plate. Texts and plates are clean. According to the introduction, "the idea of this Flora was suggested by Mr. Walker's "British Domestic Herbal," a good practical work.. illustrated by figures of the less familiar species : the best of these plates have been chosen to illustrate the present work, considerable additions and improvements being made, and new figures of at least an equal number being expressly engraved. .

19. (CIGARETTE CARDS). WILLS'S CIGARETTE CARD ALBUM. Two hundred color-illustrated cigarette cards of insects and flowers, printed with a descriptive text on the reverse. [N.d.; circa 1915-1925.] The album contains two complete sets of "Garden Life," which shows common garden pests, and "Old English Garden Flowers," Series 1 & 2. Each set has a total of fifty cards. Each card (2 5/8 by 1 3/8 inches; 6.7 x 3.6 cm) is inserted into a window pocket, ten to a page, in the album which was specially designed to display these cards. The album is a small, oblong 4to. bound in green cloth, with a moire finish, over heavy bevelled boards, with "Wills's Cigarette Card Album" stamped in gilt to the upper board. The cards are mostly clean and crisp, with only a few showing light marginal foxing. The album shows light wear to corners, with some minor surface wear and spotting to the lower board. This is a charming collection in near fine condition. .
