Dent of London in three-quarter brown morocco with marbled paper sides, matching endpapers, and t.e.g. Spines are divided by raised bands into into five compartments containing gilt titles and sprigs of flowers. Ink gift inscription, dated 1903, on first fly-leaf of volume 1. Other than an occasional bit of negligible wear, this is a clean and lovely set in near fine condition. .

Light scattered foxing, some of the photographs have faded somewhat. This is the Deluxe issue, with seven full page photographs of natural features (e.g. the Sabine Mountains), mounted within printed cartouches. Ten photo headpieces illustrate classical subjects. These photographs appear to be of works of art. The editor refers to photography as "the marvel of our century."
