"In praise of traditional country living..Life on an old farm at the edge of the Adirondacks brings a family in touch with almost forgotten country ways.." [From the dust wrapper copy]. Good .
First edition. Good .
A reprint, with minor corrections and a new preface, of the edition published in 1885 by the Daily Times, Glen Falls, NY. The new preface points out that Dornburgh's title was a misnomer or a misunderstanding since he appears to assume that the Adirondack region was named from the Adirondack Iron Works, whereas in fact it was the other way round. Very good .
The illustrations include two views of Churchill Hall, and views of the Stamford Country Club [golf course], Lake Utsayantha and Hager's Lake. Fine .
The Governor reports on military matters, the census, education, immigration, Central Park, etc. Very good .
Scarce. Very good .
Together with Mrs. Harriet Christie, Lucy Elizabeth Jones ran a summer camp and Bible School which moved to various locations, finally finding a home in the Helderberg Mountains of New York State where it was named Camp Pinnacle. Good .
