First edition of Michael Fraenkel's 1st book appearance and the first book of the Carrefour press. The Newberry Library suggests the date of publication as 1930.

In 1930 Michael Fraenkel and Walter Lowenfels founded the Carrefour Press and published their manifesto making the point for artistic anonymity.

Inscribed, signed and dated by Michael Fraenkel on the half-title: "To / Shirley M. Uhle / from / one / of the authors / Michael Fraenkel / Mexico, Feb. 4, 1944".

Michael Fraenkel is best known for his friendship with Henry Miller, with whom he co-authored the "Hamlet Letters". Miller spent some time rooming with Fraenkel when they both lived in Paris. Fair .

The Dutch Treat Club, founded in 1905, was an association of individuals active in literature, art, music and the theatre. Originally membership was limited to men and the club's yearbooks included "naughty" stories about women and cartoons and drawings of naked or partially nude females. [The second illustration in this yearbook is captioned; "To Dumb Wives: Note: Beyond this page no perfect lady will go."] After a controversial 1991 vote to admit women as members, the yearbook somewhat cleaned up its act. Among the contents of the 1928 Year Book is a series of spoof illustrated credits, lyrics and choruses for musical shows. Good .

New York: Published by Nathaniel Smith, No. 15 Cedar-Street, 1821. 1821. - Quarto, 11 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide. Marbled boards backed with a black calf spine. The covers are heavily rubbed with sections of the marbled paper lacking from the boards. Large portions of the spine have perished. [2] leaves, pages 1 through 96, and [89] through 208 (pages 89 though 96 are repeated as issue number 12 for July 28, 1821 was bound in twice). The pages are darkened with scattered foxing and staining throughout and several tears, although without loss of text. Good.

Of significance is a review of Lord Byron's "Marino Faliero" with lengthy quotations from the poem, a tragedy in blank verse, which was published that same year. Inspired by his discovery that the portrait of Faliero had been blacked out from the display of portraits of the Doges at the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Byron set out to pen this tragedy in five acts based on the life of Venice's 14th century Doge Marino Faliero. Having been recently offended by the newly elected Doge, Michel Steno, one of Venice's chief officers of state penned an indecent remark about Feliero's wife on the Doge's throne. Although Steno was tried and convicted by the Council of Forty, Faliero was outraged that the sentence was but a month's imprisonment. Believing the constitution of Venice to be at fault, the Doge sought revenge upon his enemies by joining in a conspiracy to overthrow Venice's constitution. The conspiracy was discovered and Faliero was sentenced to death and executed.

The Ladies' Literary Cabinet also includes a review of Ann Maria Porter's "Village of Mariendorpt" with a synopsis and extensive quotes from the historical novel set in Bavaria near the end of the Thirty Years War.

Two pages of music titled "The Maid of Marlivale written by T. Moore" engraved on pages 102 & 103, is a composition with lyrics from Thomas Moore's poem and music attributed to either John Stevenson or, as per a copy in the Library of Congress, to John Wall Callcott.
