An impassioned denunciation of the French for their execution of Louis XVI. The French king was killed in December 1792. The text is in Spanish. Jean Charles de Coucy [1746-1824] was a refugee in Spain during the French revolution [1792-1814]. He was made bishop of La Rochelle in 1789, but because of his strongly pro-monarchical views, he was soon exiled to Spain where he resided in Guadalajara. In 1801 he refused the Pope's request for his resignation, thus contributing to a schism in the lower church. He became one of the "refractaires". In 1803 Napoleon Bonaparte asked the King of Spain to have him arrested, whereupon he was imprisoned until 1807. He returned to France in 1816 and was made Archbishop of Rheims the following year. Rare. WorldCat and KVK locate only one copy worldwide. Very good .
