Intended for publication in newspapers of the period with text for a press realease accompanying the photograph printed in type on paper mounted to the the bottom of the photo from the verso. The text of the press release reads as follows:

"PRINCE CHARLES IS THREE / Britain's Royal grandson, Prince Charles, wears neat bow tie with his natty romper suit in this picture made for his third birthday which he observes, Nov. 14. Amsterdam, Netherlands, September 1, 1950. 1950. - Over 75 words typed on his personal 8-1/8 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide creamy white stationery with his name "Mr. Arn. J. d'Ailly" printed at top left. In his letter, addressed to the President of the Saint Nicholas Society in New York William M. Clearwater, d'Ailly informs him that his "eldest son, aged 18, will leave to-morrow for the United States, where he got a scholarship for Groton-School for the year 1950-1951." He goes on to say that he gave his son Clearwater's contact information and that of the "Saint Nicholas Society, in case he might need any advice from friends." Signed "AJD" with his initials. Folded for mailing with a tiny spot of foxing to the right edge and a minor spot of soiling to the left. Near fine. The mayor of Amsterdam in the Netherlands from 1946 to 1956, Arnold Jan d'Ailly (1902-1967) was nicknamed "the flying mayor" as he promoted trade by flying to many foreign cities. Fine .

In his letter, addressed to the President of the Saint Nicholas Society in New York William M. Clearwater, d'Ailly extends his "hearty greetings" to the members of the Saint Nicholas Society on the occasion of the society's anniversary. He apologizes for not being able to attend the dinner "but I hope to meet you on another visit to the United States of America." Signed "AJD" with his initials as Burgomaster (Mayor) of Amsterdam. Folded for mailing with minor creases to the edges. Near fine. Good. - sc A 3-1/2 inch high by 2-1/4 inch wide sienna-toned carte-de-visite portrait of the French Army General Pierre Bosquet after an 1857 painting by Horace Vernet. Mounted on 3-3/4 inch high by 2-1/2 inch wide card stock, the image shows Marshal Bosquet, standing in full regalia, with his elbow leaning against a cannon. The edges of the mount are slightly rubbed and the corners very lightly creased, though not affecting the image. Good.

Pierre Francois Joseph Bosquet (1810-1861), entered the artillery in 1833. As a captain, he distinguished himself at Sidi-Lakhdar and Oued- Melah in 1839, and was given command of native tiraileurs. Making his way up the ranks, he was one of the earliest to serve in the Crimean War and led the attack at the Battle of Alma and later at the storming of the Mamelon. Returning to France, he became a senator and a Marshall of France. He was awarded the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, the Grand Cross of the Legion d'Honneur and the Order of the Medjidie 1st Class. Good .

Maria Amalia of Naples and Sicily [1782-1866] became Queen of France when her husband Louis-Philippe, Duke of Orleans acceded to the French throne following the July Revolution of 1830. The book deals with her earlier life when she was in exile in Palermo, Sicily with her mother.
