Fair. - Octavo, contemporary period brown calf with gilt ruled frames with formal decorated corners on the front & rear cover. All edges are marbled. The rubbed and scuffed covers are detached and the spine has perished. Half-title, title page, 2 page alphabetical table of contents and 84 fine engraved plates illustrating the coats of arms of French nobility. Also illustrated with 5 engraved genealogical charts tracing the ancestry of specific French nobles depicting each forebear's coats of arms. An early Madrid bookseller's blindstamp is present on the half-title. The edges of the front endpaper are chipped and the first few leaves are darkened. The top edges of the leaves are slightly darkened and there is some very minor occasional foxing throughout. Internally very good and well-worth rebinding.

Plate #23 is not present and appears not to have ever been published. It is not called for in the Alphabetical table of contents.

There is some staining to the first few leaves of Part I. There is light foxing to the first 2 leaves & staining to the last 2 leaves of Part II. Good.

A third part was published in 1936. Good .

Bound in three-quarter tan calf and marbled boards, titled and ruled in gilt on the spine. The covers are rubbed and scuffed with wear to the corners and head and tail of the spine. A Dewey decimal number is stamped in blind at the bottom of the spine. xix, [i] & 449 pages, plus a 25-page index, illustrated with 16 plates (genealogical tables) including 7 folding. Ex-library with a dewey decimal number penciled in at the front of a few chapters. The front endpaper is glued to the pastedown. There is a hole to that endpaper. There is a small piece out from the top left corner of the heavily darkened half-title. The title page is slightly darkened and foxed and the pages are toned with occasional foxing or staining. There is a long tear to the folding plate opposite page 16. There are occasional pencil annotations. Good. Volume one only of this first edition, complete in itself. Only 750 copies were printed. The contents of this volume consist of: 1. "Barons by Tenure, whose Honours have been considered to have terminated, circ. 49 Henry III"; 2. "The Barons of the Counties Palatine of Chester and of Durham, distinguished from the Barons of the Realm"; 3. "An Account of those Persons who were summoned to Parliament, with whom the Honour expired; or who, or their Posterity (although existing), did not continue to receive the like Summons"; 4. "An Appendix, being the complete Substance of Sir William Dugdale's Lists of Summons to Parliament". Good .
