Softcover, bound in printed tan paper wraps titled in black on the front cover. The fragile covers are soiled and chipped with a few short tears to the edges and joints. A piece lacking from the bottom front corner of the front cover has been repaired with nearly matching paper. Easily removed plastic protects the wraps. 224 & [2] pages, illustrated with 15 plates. There are tape stains to the half-title and to the rear blank. Else, an internally very good partially unopened copy. First edition, limited to 400 numbered copies of this work on the role of the French Provencal navy in the American Revolution. Number VII from the series "Bibliotheque de l'Institut Historique de Provence (Collection de textes et d'etudes sur la Provence et les pays limitrophes)". The author's printed postcard, serving as a calling card, is laid in at the front of the book. Good .

Illustrated with full-page & textual black-and-white maps, including 2 plates. There is a small stain to the verso of the Contents page & the page edges are slightly darkened. Very good.

From the library of Civil War veteran Louis Livingston, signed and dated 1882 by him on the title page. Livingston, a member of the notable Dutchess County, New York family, was a Captain and later Aide de Camp in the 1st Brigade, 1st Division of the XII Corps. He served under General Samuel Crawford and was breveted to Major for his service at Antietam and to Lieutenant Colonel for "conspicuous gallantry" at Gettysburg.

Volume II in the series "Campaigns of the Civil War". Very good .

There are a couple of minor imperfections in the photograph, which appear to have been in the negative. Very good. Very good .

Illustrated with black-and-white plates, including a frontispiece, & tail-pieces by J. H. Fry. The hinges are cracked. There is an owner's name dated 1883 on the flyleaf. The rear endpaper is chipped with a small piece out & with the bottom corner lightly creased. There is light foxing & soiling to a few pages. Good.

A Civil War story of a fifteen-year-old boy, too young to enlist, who joins his brother in the cavalry as a bugler. At the end of the book, the narrator as a grown man looking back on his experiences, describes his story as "substantially a true narrative. There are no plots invented, and no fictitious characters introduced." . Good .
