Cooper, Douglas
Picasso: Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe 1960-1961
Paris, France, Galerie Louise Leiris, 1962. First Edition. Softcover. Size: Oblong 16mo 6" - 7" tall. Scarce in the trade, there being currently few additional copies available on-line. A sturdy, still tightly bound softcover copy of an artist exhibit catalog from a major player in French and European art-work display and sale. Minor wear of, some rubbing to and soiling of rear panel of otherwise colorful covers, in gate-fold, less to text-block, with neither underlining nor highlighting. A perfectly readable, usable copy, nice-looking, structurally sound. A fine and due homage from the Louise Leiris Gallery to the life and work of the Spanish polymath and multimedia artist (painter, engraver, sculptor, drawer, illustrator), whose work's importance and incluence is felt still. Louise Leiris largely displaced Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler on the Paris, France art scene in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Square softcover format, measuring 6 1/2" tall by 6 3/4" wide, respectively. "Ce catalogue (no 16 - Serie A) a ete acheve d'imprimer sur les preses de Draeger Freres, le 1st juin 1962." 27 illustrations mostly in black-and-white. Unpaginated, but roughly 31 pp. Comprises the entirety of a fine prospective show in Paris, France. Laid in note of limitation: "At the same time as these 27 paintings, the Galerie Louise Leiris is exhibiting 60 drawings that this catalog does not mention. these drawings, joined to the 78 others currently gathered at the "Galerie du Passeur" under the title "Les Dejeuners", constitute all the works drawn by Picasso, in black or in color, before, during or after the period of execution paints."Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . .
