Bowlt, John E., ed.
The Salon Album of Vera Sudeikin-Stravinsky
Princeton, New Jersey, Princeton University Press, 1995. First English Edition. Hardcover. Size: 4to 11" - 13" tall. Sterling condition hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear; not ex-library, with neither underlining nor highlighting anywhere. Absolutely gorgeously produced hardcover copy, bound in two-tone, brick-red and gray cloth, with sharp and distinct gilt lettering to cover and to spine.Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, showing only very minor wear, protected by a plastic coat, dust jacket not being price-clipped. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. 114 pp. with over 170 illustrations in color and back-and-white. From the dust jacket blurb, "Before meeting Igor Stravinsky in 1921 in Paris, Vera Sudeikin-Stravinsky (1888-1982) was already know as the "Muse of the Muses" in what had been the bohemian, intellectual life of St. Petersburg-Petrograd. Hers was the "Silver Age" of Russian culture, when symbolism reigned in the cabarets and the artistic process itself was a form of spontaneous celebration. As the habitues of this world fled the Bolsheviks, Vera, an artist and writer in her own right, managed to preserve their heritage in an extraordinary literary production: an album containing poems, sketches, fragments of music, and other dedications by some of the most influential Russian cultural figures of the day. The Album, which is reproduced here for the first time, is both a record of a cultural diaspora and a monument, in its very content and composition, to Russian culture during the Revolution." Edited and translated from the original Russian by John E. Bowlt.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . . As New/Fine,
