London, Thomas Kelly, ND (c. 1785). Leather Bound. pp. iv, 676. 8vo. Bound in original full calf with marbled endpapers. Illustrated with engravings. A previous owner attempted to strengthen the joints with glue and clear tape, but it was an unsatisfactory effort, and the repair has not held. The front board is now detached (but present). There is wear to all extremities, and the rear hinge is tender but holding. The contents show occasional foxing, and some age-toning to the paper, but the text is perfectly legible. Overall, a fair copy. MacGowan (1726 - 1780) was a Baptist minister, and pastor of the meeting-house in Devonshire Square from 1766 to 1780. This title was first published in 1772. Our copy contains all seven full-page engraved plates, placed as stipulated in the instructions to the binder. Although no date of publication is indicated, the ESTC suggests 1785, which is supported by WorldCat (OCLC 30563121). There is a dated signature (March 21st, 1835) on the first blank front endpaper.
