National Union of Conservative & Unionist Associations
Gleanings and Memoranda / 23 Bound Volumes
London, National Union of Conservative & Unionist Associations, 1931. Hardcover. Royal 8vo. The original volumes bear the round rubber stamp of the National Union of Conservative & Unionist Association Reference and Political Library, and most have the bookplate of political science scholar Prof. Michael Kinnear on the inside front board. All volumes show some wear, the binding of several volumes is rough, one volume (LXIX) is broken, but intact. The boards on several of the facsimile volumes are bowed. The contents throughout are almost unmarked and complete. Nine of the 23 volumes are facsimile reproductions, bound in wine-red buckram similar in colour, and identical in size, to the 14 original volumes, and with the text printed on one side of each page only (in these facsimile volumes). Each volume has a comprehensive index (organised by subject and name) and covers a period of six months. Topics covered include political events, 'of interest to women', government actions and legislation, and other topics in the news for the particular month covered. At a guess, each month is about 150 pages in length. The National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations was a federation of the voluntary wing of the British Conservative Party. It was founded in 1867 and was the formal national Conservative association. It was replaced in 1998 by the National Conservative Convention. .
