The top 2" of the front joint is cracked. A bit rubbed and sunned, contents clean, tight and bright; very good. Ill.: frontis. plates, portraits. This is the Deluxe Edition, number 304. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. "The first part (pages 5-307) deals with the history of Manitoba, with particular emphasis on the various immigrant groups which have contributed to the growth of the province. The "Biographies" section (pages [309]-672) describes the lives of some Manitoba notables, among whom Bryce includes himself. There are portraits of some of these notables throughout the work. According to the preface: "To tell the story of Manitoba, and to give examples both by portrait and description of the men who are building up the new province is the object of this book" (page 4)". - Peel 2915.

Tissue-guarded frontispiece, three plates, and coloured folding map, all in very good condition. There is a 32 page publisher's catalogue bound-in at the end of the book. Spine slant, edgewear, ink name; good. Ill.: folding map, b&w illusts. Bryce (1844-1931) was a Presbyterian minister who was posted to Winnipeg in 1871 (one year after Manitoba entered Confederation). He founded Manitoba College, and was a noted historian and prolific writer of history. See Peel (3d) 1031.
