SZYK, ARTHUR / EDITED BY CECIL ROTH
The Haggadah
Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv, 'Massadah' and 'Alumoth', 1957. Hardcover.4to,,,The Hebrew word 'haggadah' means, simply, 'Telling'. In the course of generations, however, it has come to have certain specific connotations in Jewish usage, some of which are illustrated in Szyk's masterful and finely-detailed illustrations in this book. First published in 1937, in a limited edition of 250 copies, this presentation is exquisitely bound in blue velvet with a golden chalice embossed on the front and rear boards, and on the accompanying clamshell box, which is bound in 3/4 'pebbled' leather. The book is in near fine condition the only flaw, if such it is, is a gift inscription on the inside back cover. The case is scuffed and a bit sunned, with wear to the tips; else it is in good, sturdy condition. Ill.: colour illustrations. The contents are bound in 'halves', i.e. uncut edge with the centre two pages blank.
