Handsomely bound in beige leather-like cloth over dark brown grained buckram spine, and encased in full colour dustjacket. The book is in near fine condition. The dust jacket is sunned at the spine with chipping at the spine ends and with a few small closed tears at the edges; else in good plus condition. Both the book and jacket are kept in the publisher's slipcase, which does show some light wear but is still perfectly serviceable. This is a big, rather heavy, book (44 x 31 cms.). Ill.: colour, b&w maps, illusts. The text is in Icelandic; however, there is a lengthy Summary at the end, written in English.

Like most young Icelanders, he was educated at the University of Copenhagen, studying philosophy, literature and foreign languages. He was eventually awarded a doctorate. Thomsen is perhaps best remembered as the first scholar to review positively the work of Hans Christian Andersen, and his 'Fairy Tales'. His poetry draws mainly on subjects from the Eddas and from the Sagas. This title is a book of his poetry. Ill.: photo frontipiece of author. Text in Icelandic. Many pages uncut.
