Glemsford, Suffolk: 7th September, 1841 . 0. 6 page paper document. 33cm x 21cm. Green silk tyes. 3 horizontal folds. Paper soiled and wear to edges and folds. Clear handwritten content including receipt of the deposit from Richard Pettitt. ** Family history records show that, when Richard Pettitt was born on December 10, 1812, in Glemsford, Suffolk, England, his father, Richard, was 22 and his mother, Hannah, was 19. is occupation was: Carpenter. He married Maria Adams on June 24, 1835, in his hometown. They had nine children in 15 years. He died in September 1853 in Suffolk, England, at the age of 40. In the 1851 census he is listed as a pauper. I therefore assume he was seriously ill. I would be interested in any further information.

Great Waldingfield, Sudbury, Suffolk: Reverend Francis Cresswell 22nd December 1841 (Probate) 0. 22" x 27". 2 vellum sheets written on one side. Two vertical folds and three horizontal folds. Plus the probate certificate is attached , including the paper/wax seal. ** Family history records show Francis Cresswell was born in 1762. He married Jane Okes on October 12, 1807, in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. He died on November 17, 1841, in Suffolk, England, having lived a long life of 79 years, and was buried in Great Waldingfield, Suffolk. *** "1807 - Francis Cresswell, S.T.B, Clare College, Cambridge; B.A. 1785; M.A. 1788; B.D. 1796; Fellow and Tutor; was instituted March 24, 1807, enjoying the benefice thirty-five years.He died Nov. 17. and was burried here November 24, 1841, aged 78 years. There is a tablet in the church. In the churchyard, West of the church, is a stone with the initials: "F.C." 1841, J.C. 1870. The Parish register gives Francis Cresswell, buried 24 Nov, 1841, aged 78. London: G. W. Bacon, Ltd, 127 Strand, [c.1920] . 0. Rare cased set of G. W. Bacon & Co Ltd, Motor Maps of England. 28cm hieght x 11.cm depth x 27.2cm width. Original brown leather case with carrying handle and key. It opens to a red velvet lined interior holding twenty-five individual, linen-backed folding maps of England and Wales (including Index Map), identified by area with a numbered tab. Each map bears the cartographer’s name, G. W. Bacon & Co Ltd, 127 Strand, London and Bacon’s Geographical Establishment. Scale 5” to one mile, maps show mileage between towns, woods, railways and golf links. Roads are pre-Ministry of Transport road-numbering scheme of 1923 and therefore are un-named. To the inside of the lid has two straps holding a ‘Universal Map Measurer’ in its card case (top absent). Marked with the maker’s trademark, ‘depose HC’ (for Henri Chatelain, toolmaker) and Made in France, the box shows the instructions for use. It has scales for inches to miles or centimetres to kilometres. Each map: coloured ; 66cm x 93cm; folded in cover 24.8cm x 11 cm. ; Index of town names, laid down to verso of each front cover. All maps in very good condition.

Original patterned endpapers. Dedication to front free-endpaper: "Marian St. H. E. Coffin from her affectionately attached Hele, Bangalaru 12 Febry. 1840." original drawings, numerous plates (some hand-coloured) pasted-in, on variously coloured leaves, some with embossed frames by De La Rue & Co, London. Rols of Sir Ralph Palmer (with his signature) ; Jemima Davenport Harrington (sister); Sepia Photograph of Marian Isabell Steuart (Grand daughter) ** Sir Ralph Palmer was Chief Justice of Madras (1825-1835). First called to the bar 1808. Married Margaret Eliza Fearon in Madras 1829. She was the daughter of a Colonel in the EIC Army. The couple had a son Frederick Palmer, born Madras 1830 and a daughter Georgina Palmer born Madras 1831. Death of Ralph Palmer registered Q2 1838; will of Sir Ralph Palmer of Farnham Surrey proved 22/03/1838." - See Legacies of British Slavery *** Family History Records show that: "Marianne St Helena Elizabeth Harington was born in 1810, her father, Capt, was 30, and her mother, Jemima, was 34. She married Gen. Sir Isaac Campbell Coffin on 12 February 1824 in West Bengal, India. They had eight children in 12 years. She died on 13 February 1864 in Tamil Nadu, India, at the age of 54, and was buried there.".

Blue green printed paper covers, lightly soiled. Spine sunned with small splits at top & tail. Adverts to inside covers. Rusted staples. The first 28 pages consist of black & white pictures of all of the shops in the 'Walker' empire. The remaining catalogue consists of more adverts, a list of all goods sold, and actual 1910 prices, well illustrated with black & white line drawings. G+ . "Walker's store was located at Old Market Place, Sudbury. The George Inn which had to be demolished to make way for Walkers Stores in 1908 ( later the Edinburgh Wool Shop). The architect was F. P. Trepess from Warwick and he designed it in 1908 for Walker and Company, a national chain of grocery and general stores. The soaring gable with leaded light windows is a major feature but dominating everything is the extraordinary bank of small paned windows set in iron frames (the latter feature quite innovative for its time.)
