This is a recounting of the 1936 British expedition, led by the book's author, Hugh Rutledge (1884-1961) who had led the 1933 expedition. It also describes the 1935 reconnaissance led by Eric Shipton, which had established the East Rongbuk glacier as the only possible route, Nepal at that time being closed to climbers. Ccolor geographic maps of the Northern Face of Mount Everest and of the route of the Mount Everest Expedition 1936. CONDITION Blue bds with bright Gilt title, wear to spine head otherwise nice clean and square, with name inside front; 7 page frontis illus consist of sketches of the main expedition members, pp  295 2 fold out maps in clour at rear of section II, section 3 contains63 photo plates with caption text to opposing pages, foxing though the inner text is mosty clean and clear. Dust Jacket is price clipped and has split down both spine edges, front split has been repaired with archival paper by previous owner, rear panel has separated, otherwise a little soiled with toning though mostly uncuffed. OVERWEIGHT. Very Good/Good.
