Sydney, Australia, Angus & Robertson. 1941, First Edition. Hard Cover with dust jacket, 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Lieutenant Ernest Andrew Mustard was a World War I flying ace serving in the 21st Signal Troops also serving at Gallipoli with the 29th British Division, Australian Flying Corps and other divisions. He is credited with five aerial victories. Mustard was also responsible for aerial surveys of Australia's Lake Eyre and the Great Barrier Reef. He was the first Pilot for New Guinea Air. He returned to service during World War II with the Royal Australian Air Force. Ion Idriess wrote about his exploits in Gold Dust and Ashes 1933. CONDITION Red bds, map liners, pp xii 251. (ISBN: 0002172135) Hard Cover with dust jacket, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. @, "Air New Zealand Flight 901 was a scheduled sightseeing service from Auckland Airport in New Zealand to Antarctica and return with a scheduled stop at Christchurch Airport to refuel before returning to Auckland. The Air New Zealand flyover service, for the purposes of Antarctic sightseeing, was operated with McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 aircraft and began in February 1977. The flight crashed into Mount Erebus in sector whiteout conditions on November 28, 1979, killing all 257 people aboard. Air New Zealand discontinued the service after the crash." Royal Commissioner Justice Peter Mahon describes the course of the enquiry and how he reached his startling conclusions. In 1928, he earned global fame when he made the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia. He also made the first non-stop crossing of the Australian mainland, the first flights between Australia and New Zealand, and the first eastward Pacific crossing from Australia to the United States. He also made a flight from Australia to London, setting a new record of 10.5 days. CONDITION Blue bds (slight wear to spine head) pp x 202 with plate section to rear.
