Part I: Experimental study on the Ancient Egyptian technique of mummification Gomaa Mohamed Mahmoud Abdel-Maksoud Conservation of Egyptian mummies. Part II: Survey study for the highest occurrence of microorganisms on Egyptian mummies List of authors The present volume contains a collection of articles written by specialists from various fields involved in research conducted on the mummy of a priestess of Isis named Aset-iri-khet-es,1 who lived in Egypt during the Ptolemaic period (late 4th - 1st centuries B.C.). In 1994, at the initiative of employees of the Division of Mediterranean Archaeology at the Archaeological Museum in Cracow, interdisciplinary studies were commenced on this mummy, which comes from the Ptolemaic necropolis at el-Gamhud, where excavations were performed in 1907 by Tadeusz Smolensk! (cf. H. Szymanska). The very poor state of preservation of this mummy, which had been plundered in antiquity, and the necessity to empty the sarcophagus prior to conservation, led to the decision to conduct the research described in the present volume. The result constitutes an important contribution to our knowledge of mummification methods in Ancient Egypt, as yet not fully understood, and of various factors associated with burials in the declining years of Egyptian civilization. LADISLAV BARES, KVETA SMOLARIKOVA
Abusir XXV, the Shaft Tomb of Menekhibnekau - Vol. I: Archaeology
Prague, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Arts. 2011, 1st Edition. (ISBN: 9788073083809). Hardcover, 30x21 cm. Book, ISBN: 978-80-7308-380-9 Description: hardback, 360 pp. (30x21cm), 39 col. plates, 230 figs. Condition: very good Weight: 1300g. The first volume includes the description of the archaeological situation and finds from the main burial chamber and the subsidiary shafts (L. Bares), including the embalmer's deposit found in a separate shaft (K. Smoláriková). Separate chapters deal, among others, with the pottery (K. Smoláriková), the person of Iufaa and his family (L. Bares), as well as with the texts from the embalmer's deposit (R. Landgráfová and J. Janák), Phoenician and Aramaic inscriptions on a Phoenician storage jar (J. Dusek and J. Mynárová) and xylotomic analysis of wooden objects from the embalmer's deposit (J. Benes). The tomb published in this volume is the third large Late Period shaft tomb that has been excavated in the south-western part of the Abusir cemetery. It belongs to Menekhibnekau, who held a number of important titles (among the "General", "Overseer of Libyans", "Overseer of the kbnwt-vessels", etc.) under Ahmose II and may have lived until the beginning of Dynasty 27. Although his tomb had been robbed, a number of important and interesting pieces from his burial equipment, including a seal of the necropolis and a faience menit with the name of Ahmose II, have been found in his burial chamber. In a separate shaft, large embalmer's cache has been found that contained more than three hundred large storage vessels and a number of smaller receptacles of different kind. On many of them, short inscriptions were preserved that often mention materials used during the mummification process including the presupposed dates of their use. In the excursi, texts from the embalmer's deposit, Phoenician and Aramaic inscriptions on a Phoenician storage jar and a xylotomic analysis of wooden objects from the embalmer's deposit are published. MIROSLAV BARTA, FILIP COPPENS, HANA VYMAZALOVA
Abusir XIX, Tomb of Hetepi (As 20), Tombs As 33-35 and As 50-53
Prague, Charles University in Prague. 2010, 1st Edition. (ISBN: 9788073083250). Hardcover, 30x21 cm. Book, ISBN: 978-80-7308-325-0 Description: hardback, 422 pp. (30x21cm), 38 col. plates. b&w ills. drawings, plans Condition: very good Weight: 2230g. The tombs published in this volume of the Abusir series have been excavated during several seasons at Abusir South. The eight tombs are located in the easternmost sector of Abusir South, on the slopes (tombs AS 20 and AS 33) and at the bottom (tombs AS 34-35, 50-53) of a large but low hill, to the north of the so-called Wadi Abusiri. They do not form a single cemetery; rather, they represent different groups of sacral structures that illustrate very well the diachronic development of the Abusir South necropolis during the Old Kingdom and the Late Period-Ptolemaic era. Most if not all of the structures document in a new way important archaeological and historical themes, such as the origin and development of the false door tradition; early administration (tomb AS 20); unique building development of early Old Kingdom tombs (AS 20 and 33); the late Old Kingdom sociology of family cemeteries (tombs AS 34-35 and 50-53) and the appearance of new Late Period animal cemeteries (tombs AS 33, 34-35 and 50-53). MIROSLAW BARWIK
The Twilight of Ramesside Egypt, Studies on the History of the Ramesside Period
Warszawa, Wydawnictwo Agade. 2011. (ISBN: 9788387111519). Soft cover, 23,5x16,5 cm. Book, ISBN: 978-83-87111-51-9 Description: softcover, 318 pages (23,5x16,5), plates Condition: very good Weight: 560g. The book presents a critical evaluation of the sources relating to the end of the Ramesside period in Egypt. The events which led to the fall of the Ramessides can be compared only with the twilight of the Tuthmosides under the last rulers of the XVIIIth Dynasty, and to some extent also with the end of the XIXth Dynasty, when usurpers and other powers behind the throne played a dominant role. If the crisis of the monarchy at the end of theXVIIIth and XIXth Dynasties was finally overcome, with the result that new ruling families started a fresh policy of revival, the decline of the XXth Dynasty marked the end of the glorious epoch of the New Kingdom and the devasting collapse of political and social order in Egypt. Preface Abbreviations and bibliography Introduction - Egypt and Thebes before the accession of Ramesses XI 1. Chronology of the reign of Ramesses XI - before the Renaissance Era 2. The so-called war of the High Priest Amenhotep 3.Herihor and his Theban "kingship" 4. The administration of the Thebaid at the end of the Ramesside period 5. The career ofTuthmosis the scribe of the necropolis 6. Chronology of the Late Ramesside Letters 7.The Nubian campaign of general Payankh 8. Butehamun and his role in the evacuation of the royal necropolis 9.The aftermath Index of the documents cited Plates. New/No Jacket.

MIROSLAV BARTA, FILIP COPPENS AND JAROMIR KREJCI (EDITORS)
Abusir and Saqqara in the Year 2010
Prague, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Arts. 2011, 1st Edition. (ISBN: 9788073083854). Hardcover, 24x17 cm. Book, ISBN: 978-80-7308-385-4 Description: hardcover, 904 pp. (24x16cm), 45 colour plates, 2 volumes Condition: very good (sealed) Weight: 1900g. The Czech Institute of Egyptology of the Charles University in Prague has since the start of the third millennium established the tradition of organising on a regular basis a platform for scholars, active in the pyramid fields and the cemeteries of the Abusir-Saqqara-Dahshur region, to meet, exchange information and establish further cooperation. The present two part volume, containing 51 contributions in total, is the result of the already third "Abusir and Saqqara" conference held in late May and early June 2010. The volume reflects the widespread, often multidisciplinary interest of many researchers into a wide variety of different topics related to the region of Abusir, Saqqara and Dahshur. The focus of the majority of the articles is on these cemeteries of the Memphite region at the time of the Old Kingdom, but not a single period is left untouched. A number of articles also move outside the core region, studying material and developments elsewhere in Egypt, but always against the background of the Memphite necropolis. In English, German and French. Very Good/No Jacket.

Abusir XX, Lesser Late Period Tombs at Abusir, the Tomb of Padihor and the Anonymous Tomb R3
Prague, Czech Institute of Egyptology. 2009, 1st Edition. (ISBN: 9788073082956). Soft cover, 30x21 cm. Book, ISBN: 978-80-7308-295-6 Description: paperback, 139 pp. (30x21cm), 25 b&w. plates, drawings, plans Condition: very good Weight: 550g. The Saite-Persian necropolis at Abusir is not only the setting for the monumental shaft tombs of dignitaries of this period, but also features a number of smaller tombs, located towards the eastern edge of the cemetery. The current study focuses on two smaller tombs - the tomb of Padihor and the anonymous tomb dubbed "R3" - whose layout and decorative program of the burial chamber provide new information on the development of the Late Period shaft tombs. The present volume offers the results of the excavations in two shaft tombs of small dimensions which have been unearthed in the Late Period (Saite-Persian) cemetery at Abusir: the tomb of Padihor and the anonymous tomb R3. The two tombs represent interesting and important counterparts to the much larger burial enclosures of Udjahorresnet, Iufaa and Menekhibnekau situated nearby. They contribute greatly to our knowledge of the development of the funeral architecture, burial habits and religious thought and help improve our understanding of historical developments during the troubled era of the transition between the Twenty-Sixth and Twenty-Seventh Dynasties. ED. BY W. GODLEWSKI AND A. LAJTAR
Between the Cataracts 1. Proceedings of the 11th International Conference for Nubian Studies, Warsaw University 27 August - 2 September 2006
Warsaw, Warsaw University Press. 2008. (ISBN: 9788323502715). Hardcover, 29,5x21 cm. Book, ISBN: 978-83-235-0271-5 Description: hardback, 338 pp. (29,5x21cm) Condition: new Weight: 1285g. The scale of archaeological undertakings in Nubian archaeology in the past ten years and the sheer amount of new data that have been obtained, spanning Nubian heritage from the Paleolithic to the Funj Sultanate of Sinnar, have spurred a revision of many long-held views and a tackling of new perspectives in Ancient Nubian studies. The Proceedings of the 11th International Conference of the Society of Nubian Studies in Warsaw bring a timely record of the newest research into the ancient history and archaeology of Nubia, the territories of the Nile Valley and the deserts south of the first cataract (i.e. southern Egypt and northern Sudan). The papers, published in two parts, cover diverse aspects of research from reports on recent excavations, through documentary studies and insightful analyses of Nubian society, architecture and art. Part one, comprising papers by 17 researchers, scholars in Nubian Studies, constitutes a compact summary of long-term research on the main centers of Nubian civilization and a broader historical reflection, taking into account also the influence of external factors on the situation in Nubia.
