Top page edges gilt. In very good condition. Spine slightly darkened. Mild foxing to edges. Endpapers darkened with original bookseller label to front “H.V. Day Dorchester.” Some darkening to endpapers and some light foxing to a few pages. Else a very clean and tight copy. Numbered 71/100. - Ealdhelm Abbot of Malmesbury and first bishop of Sherborne left letters, prose works and poems in Latin. He was an important figure in the 7th. & 8th. century in Wessex. Here the author describes the history of the Saxon invasion of Wessex, particularly Dorset, and the life of the Saint. 134pp. Frontis of St. Ealdhelm, with b&w photo illustrations.

Notorious for the exhaustive attempts by the British Government to supress this book under the Official Secrets Act, it was written by the former Assistant Director of MI5. The author tells of his time in MI5 and of the illegality and incompetence with the Security Service and reveals who he considers to be the ‘5th man’ in the Philby, Burgess, Maclean and Blunt, Soviet spy circle. This edition was published in Australia when it was still banned in England, although available in Scotland!.
