Haynes, Colin
Paperless Publishing
VGC. Windcrest/McGraw-Hill, 1994. First Paperback edition-first printing(1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0). Paperback(tear on the edge of the back cover, some nicks, creases and scratches on the edges of the cover & spine) in VGC. The book includes a disk. Nice & clean pages with a small ink mark and nick on the outer edges, small mark and a couple of nicks and creases on the edges of the pages, small tear on the plastic holder of the disk. 370pp including Appendix:Programs on the disk, index. From Library Journal:British journalist Haynes (Portable Computing, LJ 1/91) adds to the proliferation of electronic publishing books with this entry. Dedicated to librarians everywhere as they face the challenges and opportunities of a New Age of publishing, this breezy work maintains that new technological developments empower everybody to publish. However, despite its claim to be a complete turnkey package to publish electronically, this book serves more as a cheerleader and sporadic guide for potential publishers. The inclusion of an occasional address or software package title gives the illusion of a helpful resource manual, but closer reading reveals superficial paragraphs on a number of loosely connected topics clumped under one of 17 chapter headings. Although it was not available for review, a DOS-and Windows-compatible disk of shareware will be included with the text. A marginal purchase. nCathy Sabol, Northern Virginia Community Coll. Manassas nCopyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc. n nFrom Booklist nClip art, page composition, graphics: if you can imagine it, chances are someone can sell you a package to make it happen on your pc, desk, or table. But what does one do with one's precious output once it's put out? Haynes answers this and other questions in this first book to provide all writers with a complete turn-key package to publish over the information highways. Haynes doesn't so much want to tell readers how to create masterpieces in the privacy of their own homes as how to get said masterpieces disseminated and how to protect their intellectual property in the information marketplace. Enthusiastic and upbeat throughout, Haynes offers advice and instruction in the creative and economic phases of the information superhighway environment. Packed with useful advice, this book also features an appendix of up-to-date information on currently available programs. Of course it won't be up-to-date for long, which, as Haynes would be sure to point out, is the big disadvantage with hard-copy publishing. Mike Tribby. Very Good. ISBN: 9780079118950

John Hedgecoe's Complete Guide to Black and White Photography
Near fine condition. Collins & Brown, 1994. First UK edition-first printing(1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2). Large format black hardback(silver lettering to the spine, two small nicks on the edges of the front cover) with Dj(very small tear, a couple of creases and small nicks on the edges of the Dj cover), both in near fine condition. Illustrated with over 200 colour, b/w photographs. Nice and clean pages as new with some creases and two small nicks on the edges. Nice and clean book with light shelf wear. 159pp including Glossary, index. Price un-clipped. Product Description: This is a manual which starts from the simple premise that one has to see the world differently when photographing in black and white; and that, without colour, other elements - tone, contrast, texture - become the all-important building blocks of the photograph. John Hedgecoe shows how to take the first step - mentally to translate the colours of the original subject into the tones and shades of a black and white image. The aesthetics - composition, choice of subject, capturing mood and atmosphere - are also explored in detail, and examples of the author's own work in a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, portraits, reportage and action shots, are used throughout to reinforce the points being made. The book ends with a step-by-step dark-room chapter explaining how to process film and make your own prints to a high standard. Near Fine/Near Fine. ISBN: 9781855852136

Black hardback(silver lettering to the spine) in near fine condition, with Dj(tear on the edge of the back Dj cover, a couple of scratches and nicks on the Dj cover) in VGC. Nice ane clean book except for the tear and light shelf wear on the Dj cover. 252pp including Sources and bibliography, index. Price un-clipped. Product Description: A-list celebrities don't come much bigger than George Clooney. Film star, producer and director, Clooney brings the Midas touch to every project he takes on. Directors queue to shoot his next picture, actors take huge salary cuts to appear alongside him, producers bend schedules to accommodate his every need. But it wasn't always like this. When hospital drama series ER hit American TV screens in 1994, George Clooney finally achieved the overnight success that he'd been working solidly towards for more than a decade. As maverick paediatrician Dr Doug Ross, he won over the hearts of millions, finally putting behind him the gruelling and often demeaning years of selling women's shoes, cutting tobacco and appearing in more than a dozen pilot episodes for series that were never made. Next stop Hollywood and starring roles with Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts. This title offers an account of how this unassuming, good natured and good looking guy from Kentucky became the hottest movie star and the world's most eligible bachelor. But there is so much more to Clooney than good looks: from his pivotal role in US television's post-11 September charity telethon America: A Tribute to Heroes, to his controversial decision to take on the tabloids on behalf of all actors, and stories of his stepping in when bullying directors have attacked a co-star. George Clooney has been proud to stand up and be counted when it mattered. He takes press intrusion in his stride, still has the same pre-fame friends and has never forgotten his roots. He doesn't conform to normal star behaviour. But then George Clooney is no ordinary star, as this biography aims to reveal. Near Fine/Very Good. ISBN: 9781852279943
