France, Pellerin & Cie color illustrated throughout in early comic book format of pictures that tell a story with a short caption underneath . folio cloth spined pictorial boards with school boy and satchell carrying a book under his arm on the front cover + 3 boys reading from an images d'epinal book [covers very worn/corners bashed/spine cloth with holes & tears but covers still together] 55 leaves printed one side only starting with a fine parade of Victorian firemen using pumps, ladders and rescuing swooning ladies. This and the last leaf with Gymnastic displays + 4 pages given over to military persons in three or four groupings [Alpine soldiers, cavalry etc] are not stories. Almost all of the other pages are in 16 small pictures making up a story sequence in one page. Some are humorous, some historical, others moral etc. but each is complete in one page. The paper of these Image d'Epinal is rather tanned, a few have traces of pencilling on the blank backside and a few having small tears, usually without any loss, but some with corner creases and sm.corner losses, never affecting any images.Though title implies that there are 100 images this seems to be a Part I volume
