Endpapers bit soiled but neat, inscription Violet Denford July 21st 1904 - the monthly issues also have her name in pencil. Lovely high gloss chromolith plates with children, animals, toys

Over 9 inches high TWELVE MONTHLY ISSUES never bound up EACH with a fine full page illustration titled The Prize No.1 [to 12] the Month & 1904 [one penny} with caption to plate below and "printed in Holland". Minor signs of use, no tears and all 164pp consecutively numbered and WITH the loose plate given with the January 1905 issue in addition to the January plate. This extra plate has no title above, only the plate caption below, and was designed to act as frontispiece to the bound up copies. The December issue of 1904 has the titlepage for the 1904 volume bound in. *Very rare in this complete state with 13 fine chromoliths.

Presentation inscription from the Wesleyan Sabbath School. Eleven short stories including several of missionary children and orphans taken in by the missions in India and Africa. A neat tight copy. No author suggested by the 4 libraries having this title but all agree the date 1888/9.

Some signs of use but clean and crisp. *Fairy tale ending for a boy who rescues a dwarf and is given magic fir cones to help him gain his princess. A nice clean crisp copy.

Octavo blue decorative cloth (tips worn/edges rubbed and spine a bit darkened) 119pp. Front free endpaper has purple stamp of the Ryecroft Wesleyan Band of Hope with a neat presentation to Fred Byard for Reciting Feb [18]93. Endpapers and first few and last few pages slightly foxed. *Story of famous Huguenot family in France persecuted because of their religion - Palissy died in prison. Pottery and potters were respected artisans right from biblical times and Palissy was an extremely gifted worker in the trade and a devout and moral Protestant leader at a time of great persecution of their faith by French Catholics.

B. + 2 plates & titlepage illustrations and head & tailpieces. . 16mo decorated cloth with gilt lettering panels to cover & spine (tips bit worn) 127pp. Reward inscription from Primitive Sabbath School Aug 1883 to Betsy Lengard + an unrelated bookplate. Two leaves with 1" tear without loss, inner hinge tender and some foxing. *Temptation and redemption in this story of a boy who is given a penny and buys an egg to place under the hen of a friendly dame, but bad company nearly cases the loss of temper, money and hen but recalling school lessons about the Bible he becomes a more thoughtful boy and all turns out happily.

Octavo gilt green black-bordered cover and spine cloth on bevelled boards, lower board blind-stamped (tips worn spine bit rubbed but pictorial gilt lamp & book on spine still nice) 191pp (includes half title + both chromos +printed title + contents). Endpapers a bit foxed, front FEP with neat inscription Charlie Randall June 9th 1875. Text pages with a few signs of use but a neat tight copy. *Set in America it chronicles one boy's experiences in making his way in the world. The fist Nelson edition (1860) had only "Boy's choice of a trade" title, with author given as A.L.O.E. [Charlotte M. Tucker 1821-1893].

Alfred Thomas Elwes, Harrison Weir: Domestic Animals + Small Animals +Wild Animals +Game Animals +Small Birds + Large birds. . Quarto grey cloth spined chromolith pictorial boards [edges quite worn/spine rubbed but binding entirely sound, cover slightly loose and some pages stuck together] [100pp] Four or five pages with marginal tears but no losses and only one just touching the printed area. Each section has a half titles and 6 plates with text on the back. The pictures all show several animals in naturalistic scenery. There is a very nice Reward inscription to front endpaper from teacher Clara M Bennet. Library Stamp on cover page. The series was also issued with the same date as single parts in soft covers under the series title "Birds and Animal series". Author may have been the New York based writer Josephine Pollard (1834-1892).
