Beautifully decorated prize inscription on flyleaf "Herbert Minty A Reward from the Baptist Sunday School Chapmansdale by W.M.C. 1893". *Story of children helping their family to overcome adversity. Moral tale quite scarce.

[front cver v. sl.edgerubbed but entirely bright and clean] 36pp + Nister books list on 3 pages -the third being on the inside cover. Four "lick & stick transparent papers" strengthening the front and rear gutters. These can be easily removed. There is some fingering mainly to the edges.

[corners sl.bumped/head & foot of spine with sm.chips] All Edges Gilt. Titlepage in red and black with birds and floral decorations to all four edges + To reader + names of painters + color plate to preceed each story + 96pp with Beggar's daughter & last page with large printer's mark & 1845 date. The end of Lady Isabelle's Tragedy which follows on from Babes in the Wood has Ambrose Merton's device with a tudor rose, a beer barrel etc with AMB above MER. Only two copies on COPAC and no further copies in World Cat. There is an American edition dated 1846 all others being 20th centurys reprints. Scarce.
