Kip + double-page map of the county, plan & view of Gloucester City, and cathedral view + 8 single page plate. Folio half brown calf and cloth sides with spine gilt titled (tips leather worn, spine rubbed & bottom edge shelf wear). Titlepage with decorative woodcut + [6]pp Preface & Advertisement +[16]pp coats of arms printed one side only + [2]pp author's epitaph and plate list + double-page Map of Glostershire +452pp + [6]pp Index. Ex-library with bookplate of Cheltenham Library Reference Department to pastedown + partially legible stamp of "Glos. Withd** for sale" to free endpaper. Light stain to top margin of title and 3/4-inch circular library stamp at foot, neat manuscript shelf mark & date on blank verso. The same small round purple stamp neatly placed on top corner margin & blank verso of each plate, first preface page & last index page also stamped in margin. Printer's smudge of print-ink to the title-panel of Hales Abbey plate, and an old marginal repair without loss to the plate of Knole. One of 2 Henbury plates which should be at p248 has been placed at p218. All plates on good thick quality paper with broad margins, beautifully printed and stubbed out from gutter so the plates lie flat when opened. Stubbing paper rather browned and in some cases with narrow brown offset to text in gutter area, but front of plates only rarely affected. All plates present and text complete, no foxing, paper crisp and pages well attached, in sound if unexciting early 20th century half-leather binding. *Complete copy of one of the best illustrated county histories of England with good wide margins.

Library stamps on blank area of TP & margin of Foreword. EPs browned & two faint pencil ownership names, small withdrawn from stock mark on corner of FEP. *Up to page 174 the author deals with comparisons between ancient and modern medicine. The rest deals with case histories of those that died and those that recovered & the regime, concotions etc. used & described in ancient literature. Aubry's notes are interspersed with the histories giving his opinion of the cases described. An interesting historical reconstruction.

Duodecimo (134x70mm) contemporary leather (rebacked with part of old spine relaid, tips very worn). All edges sprinkled red, ownerships (Chas. Johns Painter Bedford May 24th 1838 & R.H.B. Bolton Trin. Coll. Camb. 1880) on free endpaper, 498pp (inc. almost identical titlepages for 1st and 2nd parts) +[6]pp publisher's book list. French text. First titlepage somewhat browned as are endpapers, a few signs of use and small corner creases, else clean and tight. *Madame d'Aulnoy, famous for her collections of fairy tales, also wrote several pseudo-biographies like this one relating 15th century heroic deeds.

London, Daniel Frere to be sold at his shop at the Red Bull in Little Brittaine 1st edition first printing. 1643 Frontispiece of Charles Prince of Wales by Cor(nelius) van Dalen + fine engraved titlepage by W. Marshall with views of London, York, Lincoln . Folio contemporary brown marbled calf on five raised bands with gilt directly lettered to spine (tips worn/hinges split to top & bottom compartent of front hinge but hinges still well attached & sound). Frontis portrait + engraved title + dedication leaf to Charles Prince of Wales + To reader +[5]pp of Authors used as sources + 181pp +163pp +108pp +163pp collated complete. The To Reader & Author list are Misbound at the end (signed from A2 where they should follow the dedication). The last leaves of text are correctly signed XXXX (pp161-3) last is a quarter page of text ending in FINIS. The frontis has a longitudinal crease and a corner torn away not touching either the printed area nor even the plate mark, page 88 of the Elizabeth section has an ink mark affecting a few words but with no loss of sense otherwise no tears, no MS notes or underlining the only marks a few pages with edge dusting. A really nice wide margined copy clean tight and crisp. *Very scarce in this first edition.

Engraved Frontis and Title long ago underlaid onto matching paper, circular Library blind stamps to lower corner of 7 preliminary pages (other ownership marks of earlier provenance are noted below). Top corners of first few pages browned, outer margin at end of index has brown stain not touching print, pale foxing to some other pages, but paper strong, clean and supple throughout. *Successive owners are indicated by: 18th century signature "Thom. W. Bruce" at titlepage top; fine gilt decorated red leather label "Mrs. Buckmaster 1831" on pastedown; ink note on free endpaper "C.J.B. from his uncle R.N.B. 1892"; and Wigan Library label dated 1934 on back of Title, recording Mrs. E.J. Buckmater's gift in memory of her husband Rev. Charles John Buckmaster (1850-1925). These later notes lead back to 1831 bookplate owner's probable identity: Joanna Harriet (1792-1865), widow of John Buckmaster (d.1820) who came from a slave-owning family in Jamaica. The 1892 inscription is probably from their son, the Rev. Robert Buckmaster (born 1819) to his nephew C.J. Buckmaster, whose widow presented this book to Wigan Library in 1934.

Quarto blue cloth gilt, decorated cover title on bevelled boards lower cover blindstamped (repair to 1" split to one hinge, tips worn) All Edges Gilt. Title illuminated with vignette + 15 illuminated pages of poems some poetry printed in colours and gilt or silver and all with illuminated decoration. All pages printed on thick card, with a guard sheet and mounted on a linen stub at the gutter margin. Thus the sheets lie flat and smooth. Decoration includes flowers, butterflies, birds, small views of Lake District. *Bell was Rector of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.

Garibaldi fought succesfully to unite Italy into one country.

Duodecimo original vellum (repaired at edges) Titlepage with approbation on back +[10]pp to reader +[8]pp contents +652pp. Title page with two faint ownerships dated 1706 and 1761 fly leaf with E.Bertin (pretre) and also Gervais. About a dozen pages with marginal worm track disappearing into a single marginal hole, one marginal tear without loss and the last page with small cut corner no loss to printed area. *A practical marriage guide laid out in short pity advice and interspersed with short stories from examples including historical unhappy marriages of saints. The author seems to have been slightly unusual in Jesuit circles in having also written another practical book advising that buckling down to work with your hands is also a way to salvation.
