Trollope,Anthony (1815-1882)

Octavo red roan spined boards (leather mostly lacking but covers well attached) iv +395pp. Paper browned and 3 small tears without loss. *Based on Trollope's tour of the West Indies undertaken as a British Post Office official in 1858-9. The expedition resulted in .. a highly entertaining book of travel, considered by the writer as the best of his work of this kind." It begins "I am beginning to write this book on board the brig ---, trading between Kingston, in Jamaica, and Cien Fuegos, on the southern coast of Cuba. At the present moment there is not a puff of wind .. It is now the 25th of January, 1859, and if I do not reach Cien Fuegos by the 28th, all this misery will have been in vain .." A rather worn copy in poor binding but probably the first edition, and complete.
