[KIRKBY, CHARLES MAJOR]:
A Forced March from My Home in Old England, to My Home in the Regiment. Bangalore, Printed at the Columbian Press, by Thomas Beare, 1848.
. Small 8vo. Pp. (iv), 203, (1) with errata leaf tipped in. Original cloth, rubbed and spine ends chipped. Rare travelogue of a journey made in 1846 by an officer returning through Europe to his regimental base in India. The authorship is attributed to Charles Foveaux Kirkby, then a captain in the Fourteenth Madras Native Infantry. The account describes the visit to Paris and then is mainly devoted to his stay in Rome. From there he passed through Naples, Sorrento, Malta and Alexandria before taking a steamer from Cairo to Madras. This work is one of only two known from the Colombian Press at Bangalore! The second work is a Tamil language book printed in 1850. See: D.E. Rhodes article in The British Museum Quarterly, vol. 34 no. 3/4 (1970), pp. 83-86. Seems scarce, we've only found two library copies (British Library and Princeton University). Not in Diehl.

BREMER, FREDRIKA:
[Autograph letter signed, to Messrs. Ticknor & Fields, about publication of the American edition of her travel account "Lifvet i gamla världen"]. Dated Athens June 1860.
. The letter comprises 2 1/2 pages on bifolium, old folds. Size: 13.5 x 21.5 cm. Handwritten in English. Fredrika Bremer was a pioneer in the Swedish women's movement and a renowned novelist of her time. This letter was written during her long journey through Europe to the Levant. Her diary was translated into English titled "Life in the old world". This part of the journey is devoted to her stay in Switzerland and Italy. Fredrika writes to the publisher Messrs. Ticknor & Fields and expresses her delight that they will publish her "just finished work on Switzerland and Italy". She requests that copies be forwarded "from the author" to six named persons in the United States, suggesting that the payment be deducted from the agreed sum for the American copyright. However, it does not appear that Ticknor actually published the American edition of her work (?). It was published with the imprint of "T.B. Peterson and Brothers" in Philadelphia.

LUISA SPAGNOLI:
[Sales Order Catalogue of Fashion Clothes]. Perugia 1955, 1956 and 1957.
. This collection of fashion plates consists of 111 chromolithographic plates with multiple images and 74 textile samples pasted in on paper. Each fashion style is numbered and prices are added in pencil. Annotation in German on first leaf. Housed in a paper folder. We believe this manual used to belong to a buyer for a fashion store. The impressive collection includes the typical ultra-feminine and luxurious styles of the mid-1950s. The catalogue contains samples of shawls, stoles, knitwear, jersey wool blouses, summer dresses and skirts, sport wears, jackets, coats, dresses and sweaters decorated with gold and silver embroidery. The textile samples include shantung silk, linen, rustic linen, burlap, artificial synthetic, cotton, hemp etc. In fine condition. The enterprise Luisa Spagnoli was founded by Luisa Sargentini in 1928. Upon her death the leadership was passed on to her son Mario and upon his death to his son Lino Spagnoli in 1953.
