Title page slightly browned but otherwise in excelllent condition. First edition. A collection of various Art Nouveau designs for ceramics, decorative panels, jewellery, furniture, silver and ironworks, jewellery, etc made by renowned artists at the time including Roubille, Brandt, Bacard, Daurat, Bacard and Ségaud. Moreover, there are many textile patterns from this period which dates back to previous centuries. Some of the plates were also published in "Documents de décoration moderne" issued about 1900.

A striking folded panorama with twenty comic hand coloured lithograph illustrations. Tear to first fold (no loss). As issued in original cloth with blue pictorial label to front cover, very lightly rubbed. Size: 15,5 x 13,3 cm. This is a satirical work about the problems of wearing crinolines. At the time much was written and drawn to criticize the bell shaped crinoline which because of its wide diameter caused some practical problems. Published under the psedunoym "Quiz" which might be Edward Caswall (1814-78). Scarce especially with hand coloured illustrations.

Original decorated wrappers, silk ties, back covers with some light wear. First edition. The two volumes comprise one hundred coloured woodcuts depicting different patterns of traditional Japanese short winter coats (Hanten) used by fire-fighters and warriors, also named Jin-Haori (Jinbaori). This kind of coat was introduced in the 18th century during the Edo period. The beautiful woodcuts are printed in bright, rich colours with designs of various geometric forms including animals, flowers, crests, etc.

First edition of this delightful work containing textile patterns inspired by traditional royal court kimonos fabrics. The designs are printed in rich and mellow colours, some with elements of gold and silver. A few minor tears at fold and occasionally some light stain but overall a fine copy.

An impressive collection of more than 300 Coptic textile fragments dating from the 4th - 7th century. Most of the fragments were found during excavations by the French archeologist Albert Gayet at the Coptic necropolis in Antinoplis between 1896 and 1911. In lovely condition.

(vi), 544 + one folding engraved plate, 12 woodcuts and 10 plates with 40 mounted textile samples; pp. (ii), 624 + 26 woodcuts, 10 plates with 38 mounted textile samples and one additional plate with one sample (no. 41 belonging to volume one). Complete but both titles misbound (at pp. 448-9 in volume one and pp. 496-7 in volume two). Contemporary half calf on marbled paper covered boards, spines with four raised bands lettered and decorated in gilt. Marbled edges. Old ownership signature and library stamps on front end papers. A handsome copy. First German edition of "Traité des matieres colorantes" (Paris 1866). It's a comprehensive study of dyes with particular regard to their application in dyeing and printing, as well as with textile fibers and their treatment. The text is accompanied with 79 (usually 78) small coloured fabric samples. Paul Schützenberger (1829-97), a renowned French chemist, primarly known for his research work on textile dyeing and his proposed technological innovations. Besides studies of the natural dyes he was also interested in new synthetic dye molecules for industrial use. "This remarkable work, ... was the most complete collection of information then available on dyes and their application to textiles." See Centenaire Paul Schutzenberger, Paris 1931, p. 74. The report treats textiles which were collected during Folke Bergman's excavations at Edsen-gol in Inner Mongolia in 1930-1 and by Sven Hedin and Bergman's excavations in the Lop Desert in Eastern Turkestan in 1934. ("Reports from the scientific expedition to the north-western provinces of China under the leadership of Dr. Sven Hedin, 32"). Sericulture, the practice of breeding silkworms for the production of raw silk, has been underway for at least 5,000 years in China,[1] from where it spread to Korea and Japan, and later to India and the West. The silkworm was domesticated from the wild silkmoth Bombyx mandarina which has a range from northern India to northern China, Korea, Japan and the far eastern regions of Russia.

Folio. Lvs. (26); (23); (25). With 4 leaves with Japanese text and 70 lvs with numerous pieces of woodblock printed designs of Sarasa. The lvs are folded in the Japanese style. Original decorated paper covers, silk threads, paper title slips on upper covers. Seika Yamaga (1885-1981) was a weaving master active in Kyoto. Sarasa or calico is a plain woven textile, often not fully processed cotton, coloured and treated with various techniques. Originally it came from the city of Kolikkodu (Calicut) in south western India. It was imported to Japan in the 16th century by the Portugese. The Japanese refined and developed the technique further.
