A collection of various Art Nouveau designs for ceramics, decorative panels, jewellery, furniture, silver and ironworks, jewellery, etc made by renowned artists at the time including Roubille, Brandt, Bacard, Daurat, Bacard and Sgaud. Moreover, there are many textile patterns from this period which dates back to previous centuries. Some of the plates were also published in "Documents de dcoration moderne" issued about 1900.

"The Model is on a large and grand scale, entirely composed of Ivory, beautifully inlaid, and a complete fac simile of the original building". On the reverse contemporary manuscript notes with details (height, length etc) of the building. Further it refers to James Forbes' "Oriental Memoirs" with a quote: "estimates the cost at 1,225,000 [GBP] and occupied the space of 16 years 4 months and 21 days in its construction. He gives a fac simile of the elegant and splendid inlaid work employed on the tomb".

First edition of this unusual Hungarian children's book illustrated by Lajos Kozma in a characteristic Art Nouveau style. The book was issued by Kner Publishing House as one of a series of three children's books, of which another one is Anna Lezsnai's "Mese a btorokl". Bla Balzs was a Hungarian - Jewish film critic, writer and poet. He was the writer of the scenario for Bartk's ballet "The Wooden Prince". Lajos Kozma was one of the foremost Hungarian architects and interior designers of the early 20th century. He joined "The Young Ones" a group of architects influenced by the "Vienna Secession". His early works were created in Art Nouveau style but later, through Art Deco, he found his way to the International Modernism.

Comprises title with colour vignette + twelve pages of text and twelve pochoir colour plates by George Barbier. As issued loosely inserted in original publisher's wrappers with pochoir colour design. "Falbala et Fanfreluches" (Ruffles and Frills) was a series of annual pochoir print portfolios with a romantic theme, often in humourous terms, issued by Barbier between 1922-26. This issue features the essay "Modes" by Colette including twelve pages of enchanting romantic poems each accompanied with an exotic and fashionable illustration.

Read at the Society of Antiquaries, Feb. 5, 1767. 4to. Pp. 222-226. With one large folding engraved plate of Tartarian Sepulchres (burial chambers) and 4 engraved plates depicting many different objects and figures found in the graves. AND : II: Observations on some Tartarian Antiquities, Described in the Preceeding Article. By Reinhold Forster, F.A.S. Read at the Society of Antiquaries. Feb. 26, 1767. 4to. Pp. 227-235. With two engraved plates depicting Tartarian idols. Bound in modern quarter calf on marbled paper covered boards. Some minor browning. Paper is brittle and inner margins of plates have been strengthened. Paul Demidoff (1738-1821) was a Russian traveller and patron of scientific education. He became a benefactor of Russian scientific education and founded a.o. the Demidov Scientific Institute of Science at St. Petersburg in 1805. Johann Forster was a German explorer and scientist. First edition of these scarce papers about the tumuli or tombs of the Calmuc Tartars. Demidoff's letter refers to the works by Strahlenberg and Bell and further describes the discoveries made by a Russian expedition sent out to open some of the tombs. The 5 plates are engraved after original drawings made at the expedition and here for the first time ever published. Forster's account is devoted to the writing and literature of the Tartarians; the different funeral ceremonies performed; and possible dates of the making of the tombs.

The main text is a copy of Ks' illustrated manuscript about the region Tara Clatei in Romania. Text in Hungarian printed in black, red and blue. Includes two full page coloured maps and nineteen full page illustrations of which many are devoted to traditional houses. One small marginal tear to one leaf. Original wrappers, front cover printed in red, blue and black, spine restored. Housed in a cloth folder. First edition, published as a supplement to "Magyar Iparmvszet" (vol. 14). Kalotaszeg is a region in Transylvania, Romania where many Hungarians live and it is a stronghold of old Transylvanian Hungarian folk traditions. Kroly Ks (1883-1977) was a Hungarian architect but also a writer, politician, artist, etc. and is famous for his unique Transylvanian Art Nouveau style influenced by the Vienna Session and Art Nouveau. He had a special interest in historical and traditional folk architecture and made several study trips to Kalotaszeg and the Szkely Land.

First edition, published as a supplement to "Magyar Iparmvszet" (vol. 12). An epic poem about Attila the Hun, the dreadful ruler of the Huns from 434 until his death in 453. It is believed that the Huns are the ancestors of the Hungarians and the Transylvanian Szkelys. The charming and expressive illustrations are drawn in Ks' unique Art Nouveau style. Oblong 8vo. Lvs (26) printed on Chinese hand made paper, folded in the oriental manner. With many illustrations, of which 17 full page coloured. Original cloth with vignette on upper cover, blue silk string, faded with some staining. Some leaves with small waterstain at upper margin. First, limited edition of 500 copies, of which this is no. 229, signed by the author. Printed by the Imprimerie des Lazaristes in Peking. The art of tray landscapes (bonkei) suppose to provide an aestetically pleasing miniature landscape for display and contemplation. This book gives an introduction to the bonkei art, with a guide to production and a classification of different traditional types of trays.

Pp. 22 with Japanese text and 122 plates with woodcut images, all printed in bright, fresh colours some heightened with silver or gold. Double page leaves folded in the Japanese fashion. Publisher's decorated paper covers, title labels, some staining along the edges. Housed in original brown cloth slip case, somewhat worn. First edition of this monumental and fascinating work devoted to traditional Japanese toys and antique folk crafts. The illustrator is Kawasaki Koysen (1877-1942) who worked during the Meiji and Showa periods specializing in pictures of traditional Japanese toys and antique folk crafts, also including good-luck charms which he found during his travels around Japan. During his career he produced 52 Gangucho sketchbooks containing about 5000 different images. A rare and impressive work in very good condition.
