VIVAR, JERONIMO DE(B.1524/1525)
Cronica Y Relacion Copiosa Y Verdadera de Los Reynos de Chile.
. [Manuscript attributed to Juan de Cardenas y Criada, secretary of General Pedro de Valdivia]. Facsimile reproduction of original 18th century manuscript in the Newberry Library,Chicago, with a modern transcription by Irving Albert Leonard and Guillermo Feliu Cruz. Vol. 2 [all published]. SANTIAGO DE CHILE : Fondo Historico y Bibliografico Jose Toribio Medina, 1966, Facsimile with the transcription on facing pages. Folio; 4 p. l. 232pp. {original texts and the transcription pages have the same page numbers ). 16 b/w plates lettered A-P, 2 colour plates 39cm. 1 v. ill. : coat of arms, facsims. maps, col. plates, ports. wrappers. Presentamos a continuación dicha edición. WALCH, J.G.
Einleitung in Die Philosophie. 2 Volumes.
. Einleitung in die Philosophie or Introduction to Philosophy was intended by Walch to be a companion to the earlier Lexicon, as the full title suggests: Introduction to Philosophy, Which Explains All Its Parts, Indicates their Proper Connections, and Gives an Account of the Origin and History of Each Discipline, Especially for Use with the Philosophical Lexicon. Divided into three parts, the Einleitung contains extensive historical introductions to philosophical disciplines throughout the ages. The first part examines the "Character of Philosophical Cognition". The second deals with the "Disciplines" of philosophy, namely logic, metaphysics, natural philosophy, ethics, doctrine of virtue, philosophy of law, and political philosophy, and the third concerns "Philosophical Secrets" or the teaching on the mind (Geist) or souls. Much of Walch's philosophy is reminscent of Kant and some philosophers have argued that he should be counted as one of Kant's predecessors. This reprint will provide academics with important evidence to analyse this issue and the opportunity to fully understand the relationship between the two strands of the German Enlightenment, initiated by its two "founders", Christian Thomasius and Christian Wolff. First published in 1727, this reprint is of the rare third improved edition (1738) which contains an extensive index. Now reprinted in two volumes, with an introduction by Manfred Kuehn, this valuable work provides a succinct and systematic account of philosophy. 2001, 818pp. Fine hardback set. No dustwrapper as issued. Mint condition still shrink-wrapped.

WILKES, WETENHALL,
A Letter of Genteel and Moral Advice
0. 1766. to a Young Lady: being a System of RULES and INFORMATIONS; digested into a new and familiar Method to qualify the FAIR SEX to be useful, and happy in every Scene of Life. The EIGHTH EDITION, carefully Revised, Corrected, and Enlarged by the AUTHOR. London, Printed for L.Hawes, C.Clarke, and R.Collins in Pater-Noster Row, 1766; [viii], 223pp. with engraved frontisp. (by Isaac Taylor); contemp. calf, raised bands with simple gilt rule and black leather lettering-piece, simple gilt rule to boards; top strip cut from half-title, about 40 pages lightly stained in the middle from flowers being pressed there - not preventing legibility, small hole in p.45/46 with loss of two letters. Scarce. The choice of this small book to press flowers in suggests it may have been the only book permitted in a young owner's pocket or bag on some afternoon's excursion centuries ago - or else that the content of the book was felt by her to be far heavier than its physical weight. Judging from its several editions Wilkes' views on female education and the role of women were widely circulated, but copies of his book are rare.

YANG, SHIH-FENT,
The Hakka Dialect of Tao-Yuan, Taiwan
. (Academia sinica, the institute of history and philology monographs, Series A. no. 22 ) Taipei, Taiwan, China, 1957 , 451pp. paper, browned text, last 30pp with damage to top margins tear in back cover, 2 small parts torn from front cover. rare. Hakka ,( Pronunciation in Hakka: Hak-ka-fa/-va, Pinyin: Kèjiahuà) is a spoken variation of the Chinese language spoken predominantly in southern China by the Hakka ethnic group and descendants in diaspora throughout East and Southeast Asia and around the world. The Hakka language has numerous variants or dialects, spoken in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, Guizhou provinces, including Hainan island and Taiwan. Hakka is not mutually intelligible with Mandarin, Cantonese, Minnan or most of the significant spoken variants of the Chinese language. Amongst the dialects of Hakka, the Moi-yen/Moi-yan ,dialect of northeast Guangdong has typically been viewed as a prime example of the Hakka language, forming a sort of standard dialect. The Guangdong Provincial Education Department created an official romanisation of Meixian Hakka dialect in 1960, one of four languages receiving this status in Guangdong. Generally speaking, there are five spoken Hakka dialects in Taiwan's Hakka communities scattered around the island. They are the Four County Hakka Dialect, spoken in Miaoli, Kaohsiung and Pingtung's Lu Du, Taoyuan's Chungli, Pingcheng and Lungtan; Sea-Land Hakka Dialect, spoken in Hsinchu, Taoyuan's Kuanyin, Hsinouk, Yangmei and part of Miaoli; Tapu Hakka Dialect, spoken in Fungyuan's Shihkang, Tungshih and Hsinser; Yaoping Hakka Dialect, spoken in part of Changhua, Yuanlin and Chiayi; Shao-an Hakka Dialect, spoken in Chungli, Tachi, west of Silo. Among the five dialects, the Four County Dialect is the most popular Hakka dialect in Taiwan and is considered by the world as the "standard" Hakka dialect. Broadcast announcements made on trains or MRT are all in Four County Hakka Dialect. The Sea-Land Hakka Dialect came in second in popularity while the Tapu, Yaoping and Shao-an dialects, affected by other dialects, were hardly heard as less and less people use them. Ex-U.S. army library copy with its stamp on inside front cover [ DL - IV ].

ZINZENDORFF, GRAF LUDWIG VON
Inhalt
0. 1743. [.. Reden ..][ Flensburg & Altona, c.1743 ?]; [x], 235pp.; WITH: Des Grafen von Zinzendorff Inhalt derjenigen Reden, welche zu Berlin vom 1ten Januar. 1738 bis 27ten Aprilis in denen Abend-Stunden sonderlich fuer die Mannspersonen gehalten worden. 3. Aufl. Flensburg & Altona, 1743; [viii], 342pp.; two volumes bound in one, early 19th. century marbled boards, black paper label with gilt lettering; worn, spine neatly repared at front hinge, vertical crease along centre of spine, edges worn, light brown stain running up to half the length of some outer margins, mostly in the first work, early ink entries, apparently prayers, on verso of final blank. The first work, dedicated to 'Ihro Majestaet, die Koenigin von Preussen' , lacks its title-page. After the Dedication, ending 'Ludwig von Z|inzendorff', and Foreword, dated 7th June 1738, from Marienborn, the contents begin under the general heading: 'Inhalt der Zwoelf Reden ueber das Gebet des Herrn'. These twelve sermons are followed on page147 by 'Der Inhalt noch zehen anderer Reden'. Thus the two volumes, together covering Zinzendorff's speeches in Berlin in early 1738, would appear to belong together and to have been issued together. This would make the first work also a third, or later, edition.
