[ADAMS, JOHN]
"Index Villaris: or a geographical table of all the cities, market towns, parishes, villages and private seats, in England and Wales.
Rebound, quarter dark blue leather spine, pale blue cloth boards. Five raised bands to spine, title in gilt to spine. Small folio, 14.25ins x 9.5ins, 4pp, 404pp. The 404pp are each divided into 7 columns consisting of symbol, place name, county, hundred, latitude, longitude east or west of London, deanery of each parish with rates and where required names of nobility. Arranged alphabetically, there are 60 records per page, (ruled in blocks of five) therefore there are 24,240 seperate locations listed. This copy is unfortunately lacking some of the preliminary pages including that of the publisher/printer and the date. Its pagination suggests that it is the 1700 edition, in which case it should also have an appendix. Despite these defects the main body of the text and all the information is present and tightly & securely bound.
