Book, Auction sale prospectus for the Barnby Dun Estate (comprises 820.946 acres divided into 21 lots), with folding coloured plan for sale by auction at "The Woolpack Hotel" Doncaster on 27 April 1940. 25p with 21lots described including "Ling House Farm", "Poplar House Farm", The Old Manor House, The Manor Farm, White House Farm, Fenwick House Farm and Riddings Farm. The Plan in a pocket at the end measures 20 x 29" (51x74cms) at a scale of 6" to the mile and includes many lots about Barnby Dun and also Stainforth, All in VG condition, staples rusting but sound. Some relevant annotations and and a signed and stamped receipt for Lot 10 - "The Manor House" sold for £3,900. There are copies in the Doncaster archives (wanting the plan) and the National Archives. The Particulars, Plans, & Conditions of Sale of the Important and highly valuable Freehold Property known as the "Wakehurst Place Estate", situate in the parishes of Ardingly and West Hoathly.in the County of Sussex. 3 miles from Balcombe Station, 6 miles from 3 Bridges, 4 from Rowfant, and 4 from from Hayward's Heath, on the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, 34 miles from London and comprising a Noble Stone-built Family Mansion, with stabling for 9 horses, two double coach houses etc also several compact farms..embracing nearly 890 acres...which will be sold by Auction, by Messs Chinnock, Galsworthy, and Chinnock at the Auction Mart, Tokenhouse Yard, in the City of London July 15th 1868. The mansion described in detail with a full plate lithograph of the manor; Tenants in the village of Ardingly named against their allotments. I can find no record of this auction and am in doubt as to whether it took place. Now RH17 6TN Rare document but in poor condition in the original decorative wrapper. But much of the bottom of the first pages of the document missing and very tatty. And a significabmt ink blot right lower corner The loss however results in very limited loss of text and the margins of the printed lithograph are intact (just) though the lage coloured plan has significant central loss and ink stains. See scans. Sold as is in poor condition - but this is apparently a rare possibly unrecorded document. Rare document but in poor condition in the original decorative wrapper. Edges tatty and a significant ink blot at right lower corner affecting the map. See scans.
