AMES, MARY ELIZABETH
Balanced Recipes Prepared Under The Personal Direction Of Mary Ellis Ames Head Of The Staff Of Pillsbury's Cooking Service
Minneapolis, MN, Pillsbury Flour Mills Company. 1933, First Edition. Hardcover. Book, First Edition. Octavo, aluminum clamshell box with black decorative title and blindstamped spine titles, with interior spiral binding coils holding individual printed recipes. Each of the 238 recipes is on a separate removable paper 5" x 3" "cards" with each dish titled and complete ingredients and instructions. The recipes are divided by tabbed full page cards (e.g. Bread Cakes, Desserts, Luncheon and Supper Dishes, Meat, Menus, etc.). Each of the cards is printed with sage advice for the totally inexperienced home cook in the manner of early "home economics" theories. Blank "cards" in the front for personal recipes. This volume is in excellent condition. Only one of the blank cards has been used, none of the cards shows wear at the coils, food stains, creases, tears, etc. Inevitable light tanning from the paper stock used. Otherwise, unmarked and virtually unused. The exterior aluminum box is in excellent condition with no loss of color to the solid black streamlined title, and the cover shows only very faint superficial scratches. A great copy of this innovative promotional biniding using the then rare material of aluminum for the cover. Near fine. Fine/Fine.
