Washington: G.P.O., 1889. Orders varying in length from 1 to 16 pp. These are the proceedings of Army court-martials at forts and barracks all over the country: Ft. Lowell and Ft. Charges include desertion, drunkenness, disrespect for officers, etc. Many of the sentences mitigated by Pres. Cleveland. Includes lengthy proceedings against Lt. Col. George A. Forsyth at Ft. THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES.
Bangkok: A. B. C. F. M. Mission Press, 1841. Unpag. (146 pp.). 8vo. Lacking wrappers, slight soiling and wrinkling, else very good. Title-page in English and Thai with circular vignette of the Holy Bible surrounded by rays of light. With the exception of the title-page, the text is entirely in Thai script. Printing was introduced to Thailand by the American missionary, Dr. Daniel Beach Bradley (1804-1873), born in Marcellus, New York. He established the first printing press in Bangkok in 1836, under the aegis of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Bradley is credited with inventing and casting the first Siamese typefaces for printing which are used in this early publication. In 1844 Bradley also established the first newspaper in Thailand, the _Bangkok Recorder_. As an M.D. with a degree from the College of Physicians in New York, he introduced Western medical practices to Thailand. He died in Bangkok in 1873. His papers are in Yale University Library and Oberlin College Library. Early Thai imprints are rare and few are to be found from the first years of printing. Only three copies of this book located on OCLC.
