In l950, the collection of over 1,000 art works and all collateral correspondence, photographs, etc. was gifted to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and is one of the foremost modern art collections in the world. ARTHUR, GEORGE CLINTON, Bushwhacker : The Story of Missouri's Most Famous Desperado : A True History of Bill Wilson, Missouri's Greatest Desperado : A Story Written in Blood
ARTHUR, GEORGE CLINTON
Bushwhacker : The Story of Missouri's Most Famous Desperado : A True History of Bill Wilson, Missouri's Greatest Desperado : A Story Written in Blood
Rolla, Missouri, Rolla Printing Company, 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. 108 pages. Frontis drawing of Bill Wilson, text photos. Black flexible boards with titles in red on cover and small decoration of rider on galloping horse in red. Light wear to cover, binding strong. Some writing in pencil to front endpaper [mostly addresses], rear inside pastedown has some abrasions, white paper tape to inside front hinge, and some soiling to rear endpapers. Text clean, some spotting here and there to margins, binding tight. Bill Wison was born in the Ozark Mountains of Phelps County, Missouri around 1830, and remains a folk hero in that region to this day. During the civil war he was a "Bushwhacker" participating or leading raids on Union soldiers and stealing horses. He was an expert marksman, and there are many stories of his killing people. The author, a native of the Ozarks, relates Wison's "Bloody career" through interviews with surviving members of Wilson's family and those that knew him, all told in a straightforward colloquial style. The Clint Eastwood film, "The Outlaw Josie Wales" was loosely based on this book. Good Plus .
