Tokyo, The Yurakusha, 1911. Paperback. A fascinating and illustrated hardback on commerce in Japanese, with English translations. This illustrated book, published by the Yurakusha, concerns commercial and industrial interests particular to Great Britain and America, which is illustrative of the whole world. This book is written in Japanese with English translations and therefore is read from back to front. The ribbon tied binding is tight and firm, with both covers and all internal pages firmly attached. The spine areas surrounding the top tie and the bottom tie are partially detached, exposing the text block. The corners of the paper covered boards are bumped and bent. The The top layer of illustrated paper, is chipped on all corners in addition to a significant area on the bottom of the rear board. Further sections are peeling at the edges of the rear board. The top, outer corner of the rear board is detached but present. Internally the pages contain handling marks, mild brown spots and some staining to various pages, although the majority of the pages are clean and bright. The advertisment page, opposite the title page is creased and torn at the bottom edge. The front pastedown has a minor tear to the top layer of paper. Good Only . Ill.: Various. Good Only .

The first leaf of text presents the names of riders, horses, and their periods and dynasties in chronological order, from Piebald, the horse of Hsiang Chi and the Chi'in dynasty, to Date Wonder, the steed of Yao Fei, during the Southern Sung dynasty.Further leaves present illustrations and biographical information on each steed and rider. Not Stated, None, 1889 . Cloth. Beautifully illustrated in colour by hand, this is the charming late nineteenth century journal of an Englishwoman's summer holiday in East Ayreshire. A beautifully illustrated handwritten and illustrated journal, describing the 1889 summer holiday of a group of Englishwomen in Scotland.While the journal, titled 'Darvel Nature Book' to the front board, consists of 172 pages, only eleven feature the writing and illustrations of the former owner.Consisting of five entries, dating between the 6th and 24th of August 1889, the author of the volume firstly describes her and her group of thirteen visiting the town of Millport, on the island of Great Cumbrae. There they visited an aquarium, and a man named Mr Gray showed them a number of specimens under a microscope, along with 'two shrimps and a crab which were in a bottle, they didn't seem to be on the best of terms&apos.On the 16th of August the author and three companions took a walk around the parish of Loudon, to the east of Kilmarnock, and observed a number of trees and plants while walking the grounds of Loudon Castle. On the 17th, they observed ducks and swans in the Ayreshire town of Burnhouse, before taking a train to the nearby town of Darvel.The remaining entries concern the observations of local plants and wildlife, all in the East Ayreshire region.With fourteen beautifully rendered vignette and full page illustrations of local fauna and flora. In the original cloth binding. Light fading to back strip and board perimeters, with light rubbing to spine head and tail. Front hinge strained, but firmly held. Originally the Palace was a guest house for the Abbey, before being greatly expanded after the Scottish Reformation.
