A very scarce variant, with the publishing information reading as 'Printed for Nath. Crouch at the Bell, in Exchange-Alley in Corn-Hill; and sold by Obed Smith, Bookseller in Daventry&apos. No record of this edition on ESTC or JISC. The adverts to the rear state "to this year 1681". This volume matches the first edition of 1682 besides the publication information, and with no date to the title page. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and five plates.A charming history of Britain for children, looking at the country though significant historical events.The volume is organised by county, fantastical events including the tale of King Arthur, trees falling over, a baby in the mother's womb talking, a whale going along the Thames, and more.Written by Nathaniel Crouch under the pseudonym R. B. Crouch was a bookseller who was considered to be somewhat of a hack as a historian, borrowing material from other books. In a full calf binding. Externally, leather is rubbed, resulting in some loss of leather to the rear board. Minor bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the tail of the spine, and to the head of the spine. Light marks to the boards. Front board is a little bowed. Hinges are a little strained but remain firm. Paste downs are a little worn. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Chips to the front and rear endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned and generally clean with some scattered spots.
