Various Authors
The Home Counties Magazine Volumes II-XIV
London, F.E. Robinson, George Bell et al, 1900-1912. Cloth. A thirteen volume set of The Home Counties Magazine, in attractive uniform binding. Focusing on the topography of London, Middlesex, Essex, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Kent, the works offer an interesting insight into the home counties in the pre-World War One period, as well as into Britain on the whole, before it would be re-shaped by the tumultuous following century. With sections on various notable figures and their connections to the areas, such as Alexander Pope at Binfield, as well as George Eliot at Richmond, as well as various magazine mainstays such as readers replies and letters, the works are a curious mix of topography, history and comment, with the quirks and eccentricities of the both reader, editorial and subject very apparent. With monochrome plates throughout, the set makes for a charming historical document. In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally quite smart, there are markings to the boards and backstrip, with some rubbing and wear to extremities. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and are bright and clean throughout aside from the odd spot and light foxing to endpages. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
