New York: Canaveral Press, 1962. Reprint. Hardcover. Illustrated by Mahlon Blaine. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket is mostly clean and bright, with some very beginning rubbing to the edges and spine joints. There is one small semi-closed tear to the top front panel of the dust jacket and some light ground-in dirt to the rear panel. "Burroughs frequently invented words of the languages spoken by the peoples in his novels, and used these extensively in the narrative. In Thuvia, Maid of Mars he included a glossary of Barsoomian words used in the first four novels. The word "Barsoom", the native Martian word for Mars, is composed of the Martian name for planet, "soom", and the Martian word for eight, "bar". This reflects counting Mars as the eighth body in the inner solar system, by counting not just planets, but the Sun and the satellites of Earth and of Mars." (from Wikipedia). BURROUGHS, EDGAR RICE, The Lad and the Lion

The Lad and the Lion
New York: Canaveral Press, 1964. New Edition. Hardcover. Illustrated by John Coleman Burroughs. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. There are several small spots of dark discoloration to the top spine end of the book cover. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket is mostly clean and bright, but has several smalls pots of rubbing and beginning edge wear to the spine ends. "The Lad and the Lion is an adventure novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, written in February 1914. His working title for the piece was "Men and Beasts." It was first published as a three-part serial in All-Story Weekly in the issues for June 30, July 7, and July 14, 1917. The story was the first by Burroughs adapted to film, the movie appearing about the same time as the print serial. Despite this distinction, the story did not appear in book form for over twenty years; only after a remake of the film appeared was the first book edition published, by Burroughs's own publishing firm, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc, in February 1938. The text was apparently expanded for book publication, as certain incidentals of the story reflect the political situation of Europe in the late 1930s rather than the mid-1910s. The book was reprinted by Grosset & Dunlap in 1939 and Canaveral Press in 1964. The first paperback edition was issued by Ballantine Books in September 1964, with a second appearing from Ace Books in May 1974, reprinted in June 1982. " (from Wikipedia). New York: Canaveral Press, 1962. 1st Edition Thus; 1st Printing. Hardcover. ISBN: 0940724065. Illustrated by Mahlon Blaine. B&W Illustrations; First Canaveral Press Edition. This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Very Good+ to Near Fine - dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright, though there is some light toning to the edges of the text block and text pages. The price clipped dust jacket is in very good condition. There are very small chips missing from the bottom corners of the dust jacket. This book and dust jacket appear to have been in the warehouse that was burned in the mid 1960's. There is some very slight residue of smoke to the dust jacket edges. "As he dropped the last grisly fragment of the dismembered and mutilated body into the small vat of nitric acid that was to devour every trace of the horrid evidence which might easily send him to the gallows, the man sank weakly into a chair and throwing his body forward upon his great, teak desk buried his face in his arms, breaking into dry moaning sobs." "By 1911, after seven years of low wages, he was working as a pencil-sharpener wholesaler and began to write fiction. By this time, he and Emma had two children, Joan (1908–1972) , who later married the Tarzan film actor James Pierce, and Hulbert (1909–1991). During this period, he had copious spare time and began reading pulp fiction magazines. In 1929 he recalled thinking that ...if people were paid for writing rot such as I read in some of those magazines, that I could write stories just as rotten. As a matter of fact, although I had never written a story, I knew absolutely that I could write stories just as entertaining and probably a whole lot more so than any I chanced to read in those magazines.". The Moon Men
New York: Ace Books, 1962. Paperback. Mass Market PB. Illustrated by Roy Krenkel Jr.. B&W Illustrations; Ace Science Fiction book F-159. This is a small mass-market paperback book. The book is in Very Good- condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have creasing to both front and rear covers, some light bumping and rubbing. The text pages are clean, but have generalized light toning. There is a previous bookstore's ink stamped name and address twice on the front endpaper. Through the treason of a handful of men, contact between earth and the moon had become a nightmare. The world became the tool of the Lunarians, whose plundering and cruelty reduced thriving nations to poverty stricken wastelands. THE MOON MEN is the astounding story of that tragedy, and of the exploits of Julian, the human who dared fight for freedom. It is the story, also, of Red Hawk, Julian’s descendant, the nomad who attempted to bring the struggle to its final desperate conclusion (from the Edgar Rice Burroughs Authorized Library site).
