This work seeks to illuminate, in the wake of the firestorm raised by creationists in the early 1900's, the positions held by those believing in evolution and reconciling that position in a positive way toward religion. An important early text in this regard. VERY GOOD jacket on a VERY GOOD+ book. Jacket in protective mylar. Light soiling, darkening and general wear to the jacket. A few small chips and tears present along jacket extremities. Light fading and rubbing to the book itself. Spine sun faded. Inner text clean and tight with the pages somewhat darkened. Nice copy of this work in VG/VG+ condition. Very Good/Very Good.

A collection of writings by theologian and mystic, Emanuel Swedenborg, including: the New Jerusalem and its heavenly doctrine; a brief exposition of the doctrines of the New Church; the nature of the intercourse between the soul and the body; on the white horse mentioned in the Apocalypse, chap. Xix; an appendix to the treatise on the white horse; on the earths in the universe; the last judgement; a continuation concerning last judgment. Owner's name, Gilbert Hawkes, in ink on the first endpapers. Hawkes appears to have been a scholar on the work of Emanuel Swedenborg, publishing articles on his work in various journals in the late 1800s. GOOD condition. Moderate fading and scuffing. Heavy bumping and chipping to the cloth along the extremities and hinges. Interior hinges weak but holding. Text block toned, with pencil tick marks scattered in the margins throughout. Notes in pencil on the last endpaper. No indication as to whether the marks and notes were from Hawkes or not. Good .

William Warburton was the Bishop of Gloucester, but was known for his learning and knowledge on a wide range of topics. He is perhaps best known for his Divine Legation of Moses, which presented a theological paradox to deists. GOOD condition, ex-theological library.
