Collated complete. The history of The Midland Railway, the third largest railway undertaking in the British Isles, established 1844. With particular reference to the Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, and Manchester lines. Written by Frederick Smeeton Williams, an English minister in the Congregational Church best known for his books on the early history of UK railways. Dated from the British Library. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Splits in the cloth at the head and tail of the spine, the joints, and board tips. Joints starting. Fading to the spine with marks to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot or handling mark. The odd pencil mark. Complete with seven maps and vignettes in the text. Frederick Smeeton Williams was an English minister best known for his works on the history of UK railways. The Midland Railway was the third largest railway undertaking in the British Isles, established 1844. In a red cloth binding. Externally, sound with heavy rubbing and staining to boards. Spine browned with splitting to the cloth at the head. Both hinges tender. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places, with map at page 560 loosening. Pages bright and generally clean with age toning to all page edges and occasional light spotting. Ink signature to title page. Good . Ill.: None. Good .

In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt titles to spine and blind stamped front boards. Externally, very smart. The odd small mark to boards. Minor water stain to front board of Volume II. Light sunning to boards, but remain bright. Light bumping to extremities, in particular head and tail of spine. Volume II has a small closed tear to head of spine. Scattered spotting and faint offsetting to end papers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot, especially to fore edges. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Numerous Illustrators. Very Good Indeed .
