A brief work highlighting the efforts of Nixon and his administration to undermine, discredit and criminalize actions by college students in the "movement." The work prints J. Edgar Hoover's pearl clutching essay fretting on the "Red University," as well as promotes the YSA. The Young Socialist Alliance was the Trotskyist youth group of the Socialist Workers Party. It held a large influence in student antiwar activities in the late 60s/early 70s, but declined as the 1970s wore on. GOOD+ condition. Small puncture to the piece near the lower center edge. Two columns, with the left being a photo depicting miners in cart like vehicles. A flier raising awareness for a February 24th rally (at Plumbers Hall in San Francisco) in support of coal miners, as well as raising awareness for the union. Presumably related to the Bituminous Coal Strike of 1977-78. While a contract was negotiated, it included unfavorable stipulations for the workers, including having to start paying for health care for the first time in 30 years. VERY GOOD condition. Light toning and wrinkling. Very Good .

This may have originated in Boston in 1968, based on the date and provenance (original owner active in the antiwar/social movement scene in Boston in the 1960s). 1 ¼ inches in diameter. Stickpin style back. A pin using the Omega symbol used by anti-Vietnam War protester and members of the 1960s resistance. Presumed issued for a Resistance on the Boston Common on April 3rd, 1968, where activists gather to protest the war and advocate for social justice issues. GOOD+ condition. Minor toning and soiled. New York, War Resisters League, Publisher, 1976. Unbound. Two single sheet and a brochure, all stapled together at the top left edge. Three pieces by the War Resisters League, highlighting their efforts to achieve peace and social justice through nonviolent (pacifist) means. The brochure discusses the 1976 WRL National Conference held from August 11-14, 1976. The letter solicits money for the organization while highlighting ongoing efforts of the WRL. The leaflet gives a stylized map of the Continental Walk for Social Justice and Disarmament, with a bomb transforming into a dove at the top. The reverse discusses ongoing work to achieve peace, criticizing the Left for its embrace of violence and its unwillingness to work with the Right. GOOD+ condition. Fold creases present. Free Speech on Campus! City College San Francisco School Board Election Handbill/Flier
No Place, No publisher. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Presumed San Francisco, circa 1972. Single sheet, 8 ½ by 11 inches. One side bears a handwritten "Free Speech on Campus!" in red, with the other side containing a press release of sorts. This includes the names of the five students running for CCSF school board and their suspension and censure due to their call for student-faculty control of the school. The five, Jeff Berchenko, Steve Gabosch, Lloyd Kenney, Jane Sica and Joe Ward, call for control of the college by the Asian, Black and Raza communities. Perhaps issued by the Young Socialists for Jenness and Pulley (candidates for president and vice-president of the Socialist Workers Party). According to another flier, college administration removed the banner, while four of the five abovementioned students attempted to defend it: Jeff Berchenko, Steve Gabosch, Lloyd Kenney and Joe Ward. A leaflet announcing a rally in support of striking miners at the Blue Diamond Coal Company in Kentucky. The miners struck after the mine owners' refused to recognize the union which the workers joined, and lasted for two years, with the miners eventually being unsuccessful in achieving their goals. It organized events and exhibits in protest of the Vietnam War, and supported many GI underground publications. This issue with an article on racism in the US Navy, and the US military, focusing on the arrests of Black GIs after staging various protests against racism and discrimination. Another articles looks at the treatment of recently released POWs, indicating that those against the war, were being held by the US military. GOOD+ condition. Horizontal fold crease present. An underground newspaper issued by the Attica Brigade, a left-wing organization that grew out of the demise of the SDS. It changed its name to the Revolutionary Student Brigade in 1974. The paper itself sought to prove that, according to the editors, "the student movement is not dead." The articles focus on US imperialism at home and internationally, looking at recent events at CUNY, the carpet bombing of Cambodia, and prison life and treatment, specifically at Attica. A single issue of this radical, counterculture underground newspaper from Berkeley, California, formed after a split with the Berkeley Barb over labor issues. The Tribe embraced more radical and left-wing causes. This issue with a tribute to three slain brothers by activist George Jackson, reflecting on the life of W.L. Nolen, who Jackson met while incarcerated. Miller and Edwards are also mentioned, with the three being incarcerated and killed by a prison guard during a fight. Also present is a centerfold advertisement in support of the White Panther Defense Fund, featuring images of John Sinclair, Pun Plamondon and Jack Forrest; a piece on the trial of Black Panther Party members Ericka Huggins and Bobby Seale; an article on the realities of living in a commune by a former members of the COPS commune; several pieces on women's liberation and the women's movement, etc. GOOD condition.
