I had no experience of programming of any sort but still managed to understand everything the book goes through, grasping the concepts behind the language. Everything is explained well and set out in clear simple steps, that are easy to follow, with code you can use to create the programs shown. The chapters have logical progression and work at a sensible rate, so you learn everything you need to as you go. A great book. The earlier chapters introduce the student to basic concepts of Visual Basic. The final chapters cover a project (Snooker Club) that covers the file-handling aspects of VB (Random and Sequential files) that allow the student access to the higher grade of marks. My only criticism would be that a lengthier study of writing VB code to handle Access database tables would prove invaluable for students tackling the AS Computing. The books takes you through the main concepts of VB programming, it contains very clear code and takes you through each project step by step (also contains screen shots, so you know how the program should look). The biggest bonus is the fact that this book takes you right through a major project, with code, action charts, and everything else you could possibly need to know. I would be completely lost without this book. The book is divided into three Parts. Part One goes through all the main programming concepts carefully. These need to be understood by all students.
